Great job, even though I kinda liked the less classy colour scheme from before

It looks very nice but don't appear to be renovation. It seems to be a completely new building.

So many great renovations in this thread. Good to see Tehran's centre being revitalised.

Regent Park, Toronto

Before the 1940s: Slum inhabited by Irish immigrants

Construction of a social housing project began in 1949, completed in the 50s

Because of the pure low-income residential function and isolation from Toronto street life, there was little investment in maintenance and the area became a slum in the 1970s. Drug usage and violent crime was a big problem in the 80s and 90s After a riot in 1995 there were plans to redevelop the area to turn it into a mixed use and mixed-income area reconnected to the city.

New buildings on the site:

Regent Park Aquatic Center + playground and public park

New condo towers in the background

Community Center

Townhouses

There's also an arts center and new retail outlets. A lot of new immigrants live here these days.

The Aquatic Center and the Condos look so much better than the old ugly public housing blocks.

The social houses were quite well built with solid brick, but unfortunately they were poorly maintained. They looked pretty good when they first opened. I worry the new townhouses will age worse because they already look quite cheaply built.

But yeah the Aquatic Center is arguably one of the best buildings of the decade in Toronto.

Many of the 19th century buildings in downtown Toronto also have a similar use of yellow and red brickwork. Unfortunately the vast majority are in terrible condition, and a lot are painted over.

They could just turn the social housing into normal one and build the fancy swimming pools next to it.
