This one seem like a devastation, the new version is perhaps not terrible but rather pretty generic modern architecture.

From the outside it's just a rather uneccesary paintjob though, with some simplifications for higher profit.

Al-Hidayah Mosque, Ranau, Sabah (built: 1983)

Built originally to provide a prayer space for the workers of the Sabah Tea plantations of Ranau, the mosque soon fell into disuse as another prayer hall was built closer to the village. Regardless, it's striking modernist design stood out amongst the scenery and the hall quickly became a tourist attraction of it's own, aging in the high mountains.

As of this year, the local villages have pooled enough money to restore the mosque. I'm still torn between it's old and new look. Part of its charm was its ruinous appearance.

[QUOTE=Victoria123;142007728]Toronto - 100 Adelaide Street West

Haven't been to Toronto in a while. But from the pics, I am not impressed with the outcome of this awkward marriage of style. I have seen similar facadomies in the town I lived in, Washington DC, that made me wince every time I walked by. Here, the stateliness of the original building has been squashed by the overwhelming addition. Perhaps it looks OK at street level -- I really hope so -- but one of the side elevations appears to be a wafer-thin remnant of the original stuck onto the new building. Could the developer have achieved desired financial outcome with a more cooperative building? Oh, and the new section's failure to meet the street and its elevated plaza strike me as so much 70s/80s failed-plaza mentality.
