There is a lot of revitalisation going on in Athens now. Here are some pictures of an elderly building that has been transformed in to a sizable modern shopping mall in down town Athens, but still maintains its classical looks on the outside.

Wow, Wroclaw has changed a lot! Wish it was the same with Bulgarian cities, too...

Not at all. I don't really like many of the modernist developments in Breslau/Wroclaw.

The renovations are mostly well done, of course. Good to see Poles taking care of the German heritage there. Which isn't the case for many rural areas outside the cities of Silesia sadly...

You're right, erbse. Poles taking care of the German heritage, but Germans do not care about Polish heritage.
We need money to several buildings. Can you help us?

Don't think they're in the mood now But what a great idea! - I always had this naive dream that the children of those who took part in the destruction of Warsaw would come back and make some token gesture towards helping rebuild at least one monument as a gesture of reconciliation and this would inspire a cascade of gestures on both sides. This would mean a seismic shift in relations between our two countries and a major cultural changes in how both sides perceive each other, major re-education etc.

Well considering the historical context, the economic situation and the fact that for most people this heritage was a foreign association that may not be permanently within political boundaries, what we have today is not so bad. I agree, more investment would be nice, but in smaller, peripheral places it is difficult to find the means to renovate and upkeep immediately (ie in the last 20 years and now into the future) after a legacy of destruction and official neglect.

These are some revitalization works in Madrid: basically, it's giving more space to pedestrians. There are much more works in old city.

-Plaza de Callao

-Puerta del Sol: include a underground rail station

I wish we valued our historic structures the way Europeans do!
