Absolutely, and hopefully not too "touristy" yet as most people I speak to known nothing about it.

They all look much better than before but, go easy on the colours man! I'm not really fond of this one:

Mustard yellow and violet is a terrible colour combination.

Fortunately, the once decadent old part of Montevideo is undergoing a boom of reconstructions

It's great to see Montevideo restoring it's past as there is still a lot surviving unlike Porto Alegre (Brazil) to the north which destroyed far too many of it's old buildings though there are still a few notable ones remaining.

Thank you for the coments! Here are a few more examples of revitalization in Montevideo.

Beautiful neoclassical buildings in the old city:

Within a hundred meters of the previous one.

Also within a hundred meters, a polemic restoration which I love.

And to finish with another Art Decó, a simple but needed restoration, very close to the previous building.

^ The new roof is horrendous.

Amazing how similar Montevideo and Bucharest are. Would love to visit Montevideo at some point.

I would love to visit Bucharest too, I've heard it's an amazing city!
Now that you mention it, they have several similarities with Montevideo: they both have a very prosperous past, which can be seen in their great eclectic architecture. They both suffered a period of decadence during the latest half of the past century, and now they are both doing their best to revitalize their central and historic areas, through pedestrianisation and restoration of neglected buildings

PS: A lot of people in the Uruguayan forum share your opinion about the roof (its thread has 33 pages). To mi mind, it adds an interesting feature to the building, and it contributes to the homogenisation of heights in the plaza, while respecting the original building. Of course, it's just a matter of tastes (in person it looks better )

I love it when abandoned structures are revived like that...
