And what the hell happened to the building on the left?

As to the second one - what does it matter if it was deformed considering original looks of the building?

Look at medieval timber framed houses, they are all deformed because of the age, but usually standing still if well preserved.

This one looks now like a weird blend of asian and south european medieval house with too regular row of windows.
But I asked how old is this building.

Anyway, do you have some kind of heritage conservator with which the works are consult?
The level of buildings revitalization in Bulgaria is really poor in general.

The second one, the building is located in Plovdiv and is the reconstruction of a house in the old city mimicking the Bulgarian Revival architecture. Not sure about the age of the building itself. Might be 100-150 years old, but was altered during socialism.

A tacky paint job in appalling bad taste can't disguise these horrors I'm afraid the only thing to do is to blow them up but of course that takes money which I fear the city probably does not have - well maybe someday!

You are so right! However there is always the danger that some of today's freak architects can equally ruin an environment although in general despite some obviouys mistakes, the revitalization in Poland and Germany has been done with sensitivity which is a good sign.

It was more interesting before, now it's just bland and doesn't fit to the lower building on the right.

The ones in Tirana...

It's better to see grey dirty commieblocks than that hideous tacky paint scheme
Is it so hard to paint them white or beige?

The fewer, the better. There are quite some artistically renovated blocks in Poland, some of them actually having a strong urban art impact, unlike those over the top psychedelic paint jobs in Tirana.

Hundertwasser is responsible, just one building of him in Vienna and suddendly all lemmings from Eastern/Southern Europe started to mass copy those tacky coloring contrast style turning our cities into smurfland - "beacuse its modern etc, we saw building like that in Vienna"

Edi Rama

It's normal to have different opinions on Tirana , that was an "artistic intervention" (from the mayor Edi Rama and his managment) to "wake up" the Albanian society in the start of 2001 , to start talking about the city and to make it more interesting then before , and like all the things with the passing of the time degradated and overpass all the limits of common sense .

Some other examples in collaboration of Biennale of Tirana and the artists that participated also in the Municipilaty of Tirana project :

Ann Edholm, Stockholm, Sweden

Per Enokson, Umea, Sweden

Tala Madani, Iran / U.S.A.

The idea as whole is good, unfortunately they have chosen shitty artists.

I have to say I really like it. I remember also some good artist renovations from Shkoder...
