Amazing what a fresh coat of paint (and more) can do.

I'm too lazy to look through this thread and see if this has been mentioned, but the South Bronx here in NY has improved quite a bit. It's still pretty dangerous, but it's regained a lot of its urban fabric lost in the 70s/80s. Still work to be done, though.

These show the extent of infill projects over the last decade.

Here in Italy they're kinda common.
They're usually on historical buildings, whose area maybe used to be dangerous when they were built. Then, hundreds of years passed and these bars were preserved as a historical and ornamental feature

I love this project! They always complain about the housing shortage in this country, when there are swaths of former council estates sitting there boarded up rotting away. It's cheaper to reuse than build new. And revitalisation is always a good thing

Not to mention some of the dreariest looking buildings now look rather attractive and far more inviting, with just some new plaster, roofing and window frames.

Of course the new landscaping plays a huge part in doing that

I've had the chance to walk by both of these buildings in Wroclaw, and had no idea what they looked liked before. It's a great city which has a lot of lovely revitalizations.

Holy shit
It went from Modern Could-be-art-deco to Neo Plastic Victorian.

Looks like they did it for worse. The new roof might be controversial but why did they change and simplify the window covers?
