Some parts of Hafencity remind me a lot of Sluseholmen, located in the South Harbour area of Copenhagen

Hamburg need some skyscrapers at the location. The lack of high buildings is surprising for a city the size of Hamburg. Any way Hamburg is the nicest city in Germany only second to Berlin. Keep up posting pictures guys, I am going to visit Hamburg this fall.

Yes, would be very nice to have more highrise development in the haqfencity area. Looks too flat IMO. I am not talking about 200+ towers but just some 100m residentials and 120-130m office towers.

The vertical developments are reduced to Chicago Square with up to 350m. But only in a distant future. And I don't think there should be any skyscrapers in Hamburg. The "flat" appearance is what I most like in Hamburg. Skyscrapers can be built in Frankfurt where they are suitable or in Berlin which is too ugly to spoil anything. But look at Cologne. How ugly the tall buildings stand in the town a ruin the view!

The flat appearance is what I don't like about Hamburg. And 100m is not really a skyscraper. LOL

No, it isn't. But 100m looks even more ridiculous than NO skylscraper!

If Amsterdam and Rotterdam got plenty skyscrapers u/c and approved, why Hamburg 5 mln metropoly cannot have? It is not necessary to create one cluster of towers close to each other but better a few c.a. 80-100 m buildings between the existing low rises in urban districts like Hafencity...Why German cities a so afraid of high-rises?

If they are commercial okay. But most people here do not like residential highrises. In some cities they are getting demolished because no one wants to live inside them.
And why does a city HAVE to have highrises? I don't think it is necessary in Hamburg. The city has the area of NYC and only 1.7 million inhabitants. So the average density does not require them. Better then building them and having a deserted empty skyline!

I understand that huge commie blocks from 1970" were demolished, but I can't beleive that in Hamburg there are no people who prefer to live in modern high appartments, next to the water, with wounderful view on a city...
A red in D.A.F that all appartments from oval 70m tower were sold very quickly...

How about office towers? Is there no demand on commercial surface in Hamburg? Chicago Square is a good masterplan. However as I see no investor is interested in building in that area yet...

Surely there is need for office space! Hamburg has a lot of offices but mostly in mid-to low-rise. Why do they have to put everything upwards?
The reason there is no investor for Chicago Square is simple: It will be Hafencity's last part to be built. That should be finished only in 2025. So it would be somewhat strange to sell the space already tody!

That's absolutely right. It was even sold out before construction started. Although the apartment price increases with height, the upper apartments were generally sold first. There is surely a high demand for highrise apartments in Hamburg, especially with such great views over the harbour or the city.

@Frankfurt ffm.
Such modern highrises have absolutely nothing to do with social housing highrises constructed in the 1970s. Don't know why you use them for comparison.
