Many squares and streets in HafenCity were given international names, such as Chicago square, Osakaallee or Shanghaiallee. Trying to make a cosmopolite impression i guess.

Could work. But german banners are usually meant to be funny or werid.

Not quite. Dar-es-Salaam is Hamburgs youngest Sister City. The places and streets in the HafenCity are named after Sister Cities or Port cities, which cooperate with the Hamburgian Port as "Partner Harbour", or have tight trading realtionships to Hamburg.

Names after Sister Cities:
Oasakaallee (Osaka Avenue)
Shanghaiallee (Shanghai Avenue)
Chicago Square was just a project name. The new name was not annouced, yet. Instead the street to the new U/C Cruise Center Terminal is now named Chicago Sraße (Chicago street). And the Quay is Chicagokai (Chicago Quay)

This procedure is not new in Hamburg. Other and older Sister Cities are Marseille and St. Petersburg. So next to the International Congress Center you find "St.Petersburger Straße" and "Marseiller Straße". And because they have already Names, you don't find them in the Hafen City.

Names after Port Cooperations and Port cities
- Yokohama Street (Yokohama was the first port, that went into a cooperation with Hamburg), Kobe Street, Hong Kong Street, San Fransico Street, Vancover Street, Tokio Street, Singapur Street and Kora Street (in Korea the harbour Busan is Hamburgs Partner-harbour. I actually don't know why the street is names after the whole Country).

Only Streets, which have been created new, got those Names. For existing Streets the current Names have been kept. So the Yokohama Street is next to the "Steinschanze". Singapur Street crosses "Am Sandtorkai".

For me that is okay. The only naming in the Hafen City I don't really like and consider a bit presumptuous is the Naming of squares after great seamans like Maggelan, Vespucci or Marco Polo - which have all no connection to this city.

The prosperity of Dar es Salaam is quite closely related to Hamburg. It rose to its status as one of the most important seaports of Africa when the German East Africa Company established a station there. You could also reverse the narrative: Hamburg has Dar-es-Salaam to thank for a part of its wealth, as that was where goods from the African colonies were shipped to Hamburg, where money was made off them.

But also in general you see that a lot of public places in former port areas throughout Europe are named after the places where ships would sail from/to when they were still functioning docks.

In the Antwerp Eilandje area (former port), there's a Cadiz square and a Montevideo square, next to a London street and an Amsterdam street, among others.

In Ghent (also in Belgium), streets and quays in the oldest parts of the port are named after Galveston, Port Arthur and New Orleans, which is where the raw cotton came from that was processed in the city's cotton mills.

In Rotterdam they've named most of the high-rises on the Wilhelminapier after cities its port was connected to from that dock.

This is correct. While the square is not named to honor or refer to colonial times. There are plenty of other streets and placed everywhere in the city which do so (Windhoek quay, Kamerunweg, Caprivi Straße), which is controvesial discussed, if some should be renamed - in case they are named after (for exapmple) slave traders.
The new Dar-es-Salaam Square is not on one of those lists - not even on one of hardliners. The Naming-Reason is a current parntership/friendship reason (as well the city as also the ports cooperate) instead of a colonial-past-naming - and should not be mistakenly considered as one.

Dar-es-Salaam also named a street after Hamburg to celebrate the Friendship. You find a "Hamburg Avenue" nowadays over there

Belgrade project cannot remotely compare with Hafencity as the latter is a serious project done following all necessary procedures and according to expert opinions. Belgrade project is just a bunch of illegal structures built for local criminals completely ignoring expert opinion, laws, procedures or any logic whatsoever.

There are some people in Hamburg who think exactly the same about the Hafen City. Just change "criminals" with "richt people" or "investor interests".

How much do you want to bet that 200 meter tower will never be built. It is an absolutely beautiful design, but the NIMBY's would probably kill it.

^ Actually it's only a mass study. I'm pretty sure we will see a tower on this plot.
HafenCity is constantly expanding towards its location, and getting higher and denser.
