New York City is the safest big city in the United States, Some of the U.S.'s safest municipalities are in the NYC metro area.

Poverty in the US is not the same as poverty in other countries. We're not socialist like countries in the EU (thank god) where unemployment is over 10%. The majority of people who are in 'poverty' in the US have a job and a place to live. It's just a low paying job, but still enough to get by. The thing I love about America is that there is a HUGE middle class. If I had to estimate I would say at least half of the nation is a regular middle class family. There are some extremely rich, yes, a few poor, of course, but the reason we have suburbia and sprawl in America is because we are largely a middle class country. And I love that.

Getting back to topic, I think that Citibank is probably NYC's most underrated skyscraper. Even though it is the tallest building in the city outside of Manhattan, it still overlooked b/c it's in Queens. Sometimes when I see it from 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Aves, I almost think that Citibank is in Manhattan when it's really across the East River. The same thing when I see it from a distance either from the LIE or from Queens Blvd.

The same thing happened to me after I landed at JFK in 2003. It was the first skyscraper I saw from the airport bus and I recognised it immediately from all the aerial pictures I had seen of New York.
