Vijayawada cityscapes

Vijayawada, the third largest city (population wise) in Andhra Pradesh, is located along the banks of river Krishna in the fertile Krishna Godavari Basin.

Jai Bajrang Bali!!!!!!!!!!!

In Vijaywada station platform 1, there is this amazing juice stall, that taste is heavenly :slurp:. I remember I always used to have that juice whenever I went to Chennai from Ahmedabad in Navjeevan Xpress. I surely miss the train journeys .

Good to see guard rails along the road, btw, which section of NH is this?

Is it coming under NHDP? It is a two lane, so any two lane as a part of NHDP?

another news item says 135 feet tall:
-----------------------------------
Krishna dist to become hot destination for tourists
Saturday August 5 2006 14:18 IST

VIJAYAWADA: Already an educational hub and a growing industrial nerve centre, Krishna district is now poised for a tourism-take-off. In the pipeline are a slew of tourism promotional initiatives that could well go on to make Krishna district a hot destination.

Two years from now, a visitor from Hyderabad could soothe his frayed nerves at a Spa and a 2.5 acre natural herbal garden close to the giant 135-feet Hanuman at Paritala, have a go at water sports at Nawabpet tank, dig into the ethnic stuff at the upcoming Urban Haat, Vijayawada’s own version of Silparamam and then go footloose at the 14th Century Kondapalli hill fort.

The District Tourism Promotional Council (DTPC) headed by district collector Navin Mittal, has sent proposals worth Rs 1 crore to develop infrastructural facilities like a park, drinking water, toilets and eat-outs, besides landscaping the foreground at Kondapalli fort.

A welcome arch modeled after medieval fort gate at the Ibrahimpatnam, where the National Highway and the Kondapalli Road meet would be set up.

If all goes well, an Urban Haat would be set up near Gollapudi, where ethnic handicrafts like the laces of Narsapur, Kalamkari works of Pedana, handloom sarees and dress materials from Mangalagiri and toys of Kondapalli would be merchandised.

"We have already identified the land for setting up a Rs 1 crore health resort and spa near Paritala. The project would be built through public-private partnership ((PPP). The social forestry department has a picturesque nursery closeby," said district tourism officer P Vemana.

Meanwhile, the development of the massive Brahmaiahlingam Cheruvu close to Gannavaram would be taken up as a mega tourism project. According to Vemana, the secretary of tourism has called for proposals and the project would be taken up as a mega-project worth more than Rs 1 crore.

Hey gud to see a thread on Bejawada/Vijayawada......cool place. Especially the outskirts, which are dotted by beautiful mountains. A very scenic place to visit.

But stay away from this place during the summer....believe me you don't want to be anywhere near this city in summer. It's extremely hot and unbearable.

The road trip from Vijayawada to Hyd is really a pleasant experience....made numerous trips on tht stretch.

this area is going to become huge once urbanization kicks into high gear

its already a major commerce centre on Coastal andhra

and its neighbouring tenali and guntur could soon be engulfed into one big megacity

Nine streams of traffic flow from five directions

COMMON SIGHT: A view of traffic at police control room junction in Vijayawada. - Photo: Ch. Vijaya Bhaskar
VIJAYAWADA : The Police Control Room centre, which is located between the RTC bus terminal and railway station, is the busiest junction after Benz Circle in the city.

During peak hours, the circle becomes the hub of nine streams of traffic flowing from five directions. The circle is a confluence of two streams of traffic (to & fro) towards the railway station side, two streams from Eluru-Bandar Road, two from the bus terminal, two from the flyover and one from the road between the Police Control Room and Governorpet-I bus depot.

Traffic from Mahatma Gandhi (Bandar) Road and Karl Marx (Eluru) Road going towards One Town or beyond moves past the circle. The existing infrastructure is far from adequate to handle the traffic. There are only four sets of signal lights to control the traffic moving past the circle.
