Korcula island (Marco Polo's birthplace), Croatia

The island and town of Korcula, southern Dalmatia, Croatia





KORCULA, a town and port on the north-eastern coast of the island of Korcula, situated on a small peninsula which is connected with the island by a narrow isthmus; population 3,232. The surrounding coastal area is covered with pine forests. East of the port is a small group of islets.
The town of Korcula, the historical centre of the island, has a very nice location in the Peljesac Channel. It is also known for its outstanding cultural and historical heritage and a long tradition in seafaring, shipbuilding and stone-masonry. It is the birthplace of the adventurer and traveller Marco Polo.
Economy is based on farming, growing of vines, olives and fruit, fishing, shipbuilding, stone processing, tourism and nautical tourism.

Here in Sydney where I live, Croats from the island of Korcula form one of the biggest groups. Especially from the second biggest town of "Blato" which you haven't shown.

Believe it or not, i've been looking for decent photos of Blato and was able to find a big nothing If you happen to have more luck finding them, you are welcome to post them here, that would be cool

Wow - that looks like a really special place - the quality of light and the lovely consistnecy of the stone colour is really beautiful.
