I have visited LA a couple of times. the first time we got lost in our brand new rental car in Compton at about 11pm on a saturday night. We stayed in Hollywood Blvd (sorry but Hollywood Blvd is a shit hole).Appart from that we thought LA was quite nice.We liked walking around Beverley Hills and the Hollywood Hills too.But in our oponion we thought NY was heaps better.

when i first moved to los angeles i hated it. i don't think it is a great place for a teenager to get acquainted with the united states. but now as an adult having lived all over the world, i love it. i've lived in downtown los angeles since 1990 (with one short break) and i think that's what has made the difference for me. los angeles is comprised of many neighborhoods and finding one that works for you is critical.
i can contrast and compare to los angeles places such as manila, tokyo, honolulu, san francisco, new york, washington dc, paris, prague, bratislava, budapest, vienna, london and kiev to this city's downtown, suburbs, and neighborhoods (sherman oaks, venice beach, santa monica, manhattan beach, long beach, south pasadena, east los angeles, huntington beach, newport beach, laguna beach, etc.) and i love this city more knowing i go home to downtown los angeles. downtown is the new "it" neighborhood in los angeles. i looked on craigslist for an informal poll and found the most expensive apartments/lofts to be in downtown los angeles. but i've been here for a good while and was here before it go so expensive, when it was a little too gritty for most people. i love that i can walk or take the DASH or metro to most places i want/need to go. easily accessible by walking: 22 art galleries, olvera street, little tokyo, chinatown, fashion district, toy district, free events at redcat and walt disney hall, the music center, calplaza's watercourt stage, moca, and the list goes on. i love that i'm centrally located to other parts of the city. while i hesitate to go west of la brea (unless it's to the beach, a hoity-toity event on rodeo or a film event), i like venturing eastward for culinary treats like japanese dessert land, $2 vietnamese sandwiches, argentinian churrascarias with 24 varieties of grilled meats, and countless boba and tea houses, usually open until 4am. it's not a perfect city - i get tired of the traffic, parking, pollution, crime, poverty, insane sense of entitlement that many angelenos have, and general wackiness, too. los angeles is only my third favorite city in the world, paris is #1 and prague is #2. but living here certainly gives one a sense of a city where the best still lies ahead instead of a city that waxes nostalgic for better days in the past.

its funny how hypocritical people are. They praise Cape Town, Rio, Hong Kong, Vancouver for their beautiful locations. They would at the drop of a hat move to these places because of it. What about L.A.? LA? Are you serious!? I would never move that sprawling, ghetto, sleazy shitho---

I would love to live in Southern Orange County(east of Highway 55). I think that's the best part of LA Metro and US.

The city is beautiful! I never knew it was that close to the mountains too though. To hell with all those people who are complaining cuz they are just jealous.

Thats a view from the Palos Verdes Penninsula, pretty close to where Trump is finishing up his new golf course and 20 million dollar track homes. I was there recently and i saw pretty much the same view. LA is a beautiful place, but of course there are some drawbacks. Things are looking up for the city of Angels for a couple fo reasons, namely the new rail that is being built throughout the city, the new planning direction that the city is taking (TOD's, Dense highrise living, and less sprawl, Tons of Infill Development) and the BOOM in DT LA, Hollywood, Long Beach, Pasadena, and tyhe Wilshire Corridor, all surprise surpirse, areas that are linked by rail. Oh and we have the best weather on earth and pretty much everything you can think of.

I'd love living in Los Angeles. I love the clean and dirty parts of a city. That's what makes a real city in my opinion. Dirty and spectacular.
