Where did you get those from and what are you classifying as high-rises?

Yeah... 12 storeys/35m is the cut-off height, and their stats are inaccurate/incomplete, so it's difficult to get an accurate representation.

London stats are according to http://www.skyscrapernews.com/ - a more reliable source for British skyscrapers ... (Take note not all buildings are listed, as more come up everyday)

Only over 50m

Approved = 58
Proposed = 54
Under Construction = 14

Well, it's Emporis, so it's not even close to a complete compiliation.

Toronto shouldn't be on top of that list at all, cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sao Paolo, New york, and even Dubai should be even higher on that list with towers Approved/Proposed/Under construction.

North American stats are the only ones that are very close to accurate. I don't think that list posted is in any particular order either.

Nah...emporis is about as close as you can get to a full compiliation for a site that has data for every big city in the world.

I think thats a good definition and is based on the first building which was named a "skyscraper" back then. Local media here would call everything which is taller in height than in width and has more than 8 stories a highrise.

well maybe you guys should argue with the CBTUH who have defined what constitutes a skyscraper and Britania is correct its 12F and or 35m.
being the worlds authoritive comittee for this thing they pretty much know a bit more about buildings than we do.

I did not put Dubai or Shanghai on the list because nethier has 1000 high rises built. Like i said before i only looked for cities with over 1000 highrises. Anyway here are Dubai's and Shanghai's stats.

Shanghai:
549 completed
46 under construction
20 approved
11 proposed

Dubai

233 under construction
156 completed
155 approved
20 proposed

In truth Shanghai likely has 5000 or more completed highrises which would match Emporis' requirements of a highrise. 550 is a complete joke.
