For those of you who don't grab a RedEye before boarding the El, Trump was the feature today. A plethora of factoids, both large and small, are listed. Here's the full skinny: http://redeye.chicagotribune.com/red...,4569922.story

A few construction-related highlights:

#1 - The penthouse. The Trumps are reserving the top, 14,200-square-foot penthouse with a 360-degree view on the 89th floor for their use, said Kiyoko Binosi, a Trump sales exec. Three of the nine penthouses on floors 86 to 88 are still available for sale and cost up to $9.6 million for a 6,850-square-foot penthouse, she said.

#44 - 20-piece spire from Germany to be raised next month using a construction helicopter.

#75 - Italian 500-thread count bed linens. The guest rooms on floors 14 to 27 roughly start at $525 a night for a 600-square-foot room and go up to $3,500 a night for a three-bedroom 3,800-square-foot suite.

There are 486 residential condos and 339 hotel condos for sale. Hotel condo owners have the option to allow the hotel to book their units at hotel rates to guests when the owners are not using them.

The hotel condo units on floors 17 to 27 range from $850,000 for a 530-square-foot studio to $3.5 million for a 2,250-square-foot two-bedroom unit. The residential condos on floors 29 to 85 start at $580,000 for a 580-square-foot studio. Of the combined condos, 75 percent have been sold, Binosi said.

I thought the spire was supposed to be erected this month? We're pretty close to the end of the month... anyone know when it's going to happen?

If it's supposed to take 2 days.. Saturday and Sunday. And the bottom half is being erected using the tower crane.. would anybody else assume they would only use the helicopter on Sunday?

A closer look at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago spire

Scheduled installation dates: Nov. 1 and 2

Height: 227 feet, 8 inches

Materials: Three-legged steel sections clad in painted fiberglass

Number of sections: 13

Weight of sections: Up to 20,000 pounds each

Height of sections: Most are 20-feet tall. Some are 15-feet tall

Width of sections: The sections taper as the spire rises, to 4 feet from 10 feet.

Color: A shiny gray, in contrast to the white antennas of Sears Tower.

Construction method:

Installation Services Inc. of Genoa, located about 65 miles northwest of Chicago, will install the spire, which is similar in construction to the broadcast antennas of Sears Tower but will not be used for broadcasting. Trucks will deliver the sections to the Trump skycraper's riverfront site. A construction crane will lift them to the roof, one at a time. According to Installation Services president Ronald Romano, the crane will set the first 92 feet of the spire into place. Then a helicopter will lift the final pieces.

http://www.newser.com/story/41152/tr...ago-tower.html

(Newser) – Donald Trump's 92-story Chicago tower has been hit by a triple-whammy of the credit crunch, the housing slump, and sagging retail sales, making foreclosure a real danger, the Wall Street Journal reports. Trump, who developed the tower without partners, owes $1 billion on the project but has so far sold only $600 million in condo units and condo-hotel units. He's looking for an extension on a key loan due this Saturday.

Trump says the building—the tallest built in the US since the Sears Tower—can still be a success if he manages to sell the unsold units, which he estimates could be worth $475 million. "It could turn out to be a successful development depending on what happens in the market over the next two years," he tells the Journal. "The job is on time and on budget, and it's a beautiful job and will become an icon of the Chicago skyline."
