#225 l 1100 Louisiana Building l HOUSTON l 228m l 55fl

1100 Louisiana Building
Houston, USA

HEIGHT: 228m/748m
FLOORS: 55 floors
COMPLETION: 1980
ARCHITECT: Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP

An architectural oak hidden in a forest of giants, 1100 Louisiana is one of those buildings that makes a significant contribution to Houston's skyline, but is overlooked because of its flashy neighbors. If the building looks familiar, it should. It was designed by the same company that came up with San Francisco's Bank of America building, which also features cutaways that reveal triangle bays like a giant Lego project. During the day, its pink granite adds an element of contrast to its green neighbor, Wells Fargo Plaza. On one side of the building is on open plaza which has been given a focal point with Even Jean Dubuffet's "Monument au Fantóme" featured elsewhere on this site.

7.5/10

This building looks nice only from 1 angle. It also looks very much like the 3 First National plaza in Chicago. Not surprisingly both were designed by SOM. Bleah.

It also looks a lot like the Southeast Financial Center (I think that's the name anyways) in Miami, and the Scotia Center in Toronto. It's definately a design that they could get rich by imitating. In the early '90's anyway.

7/10 - the facade dances with the light from some angles, and the vertical indentations running up one side make it livlier.

But - outside of that, it's rather monotonous, especially when the sun isn't dancing with the curtain walls. Then it turns into a bland mass of endless windows.

If it hadn't been for that facade, I would have given it a 5 or so...

It kinda reminds me of that Donald Trump Tower in Ny.
I really like the glass facade.Only on the last pic the tower looks too wide but on the other pics it doensn't look that bad.
