Boats can't get past the wier at Glasgow Green though, so any boats up there wouldn't travel down to the wider part of the Clyde. What kind of boats were they?

There's a small boatyard at Rutherglen, but I think the boats have to be taken to and from site by road - the slipway would only really be useful for testing. Otherwise, that stretch of the river is pretty regularly used by canoes - boat race type things launched from the boathouses on Glasgow Green. There was a race in full swing as I cycled home one day recently - I was going very much against the flow of those following it!
