Been wondering it myself but would you lot rather the same design with the same height to go up or a simpler completely different design that is considerably taller?

Personally I want the same design. I think it was the spiral on top which made it so popular, as well as it being the tallest. Can a better suited, more iconic crown be found? The surrounding buildings hung off the design beautifully, and it's that that made it a winner imo rather than just being tall. If costs have to be cut I would like to see it be maybe squared off a bit more at the bottom, maybe single skinned, but keep the spiral

Same design with the same height. Although it would be nice for London to get a second supertall, I think that the most important thing for the Pinnacle to achieve is to epitomise the City, becoming the 'pinnacle' of the City in terms of its design, and also height, which would still be taller than anything there currently. I think that the old design did this perfectly.

I completely agree with you in terms of the old design of the Pinnacle being iconic and beautiful, but I disagree with your latter statement. I think that tampering with the old design, for example by squaring off at the bottom, would just ruin the perfect design, constantly reminding us of how it could have been. Therefore, while I would prefer to keep the old design, I would rather they re-designed it completely (obviously it will have to be good) than tampering with it.

The NYC references are getting pretty boring.

This tower needs to be built, and while the height is important for its 'Pinnacle' moniker, i also think the design should not be compromised. A box with features to make it interesting and good quality cladding.
It would be like the Chrysler Building of The City, it needs to be beautiful and have soar to it to justify its place in the City cluster.

Yes, I agree with this comment. I like the futrure Pinnacle design being compared to the Chrysler. It needs to be elegant and magnificent and almost like a Beacon to the City. Kind of symbolic in some ways.

Pinnacle tower to keep ‘helter skelter’ design after review
6 December 2013 | By Allister Hayman

The review of the stalled Pinnacle tower development in the City of London is near completion, with the “helter skelter” design set to be retained, Building has learned.

The main owners of the scheme, Sedco, a Saudi Arabian fund manager and Sharia-compliant investment fund Pramerica, placed the scheme under review in January, with contractor Brookfield Multiplex, architect Kohn Pederson Fox, and development manager Arab Investments seeking to value engineer the stalled project to make it viable.

That came after funding for the scheme, which if built would be the tallest tower in the City of London, dried up in late 2011, with work on the tower on hold since January 2012.

Building understands the review is now largely complete, with no significant changes to be made to the exterior of the tower and the “helter skelter” design retained.

However, changes have been proposed to floor plates, and retail space on the lower floors has been scaled back to increase commercial office space. There is also a larger atrium that could encompass two separate main entrances to accommodate two major corporate tenants.

It is understood the proposed changes to the retail element would require fresh planning permission from the City of London, although this has not yet been sought.

The review has also reduced the cost of the project, which was thought to be as high as £1bn.

Brookfield’s construction contract for the existing scheme is worth £593m.

Meanwhile, property firm CBRE, which was brought in earlier this year to source new funding for the project, is understood to have now drawn up a shortlist of investors in the scheme with movement expected in the new year.

All parties declined to comment.

Its 8 years from the first post, not very impressive tempo of this investment. I wonder how long it will take to build it, next 8 years ?

There has been a lot of politics behind the project... but I think this will be the real deal.

I think a deal with SOME Tennants are probably in order or negotiations, otherwise they would have never have released this information to the general public.

Absolutely wonderful news.

Great news. It would be a bloody shame to change this spectacular design.

I'm really happy for this. Will construction begin straight away or does the re-application take a while?

Good article from the Independent about The Pinnacle:

Things are certainly looking up for the project.
