Seems like the developers really want this to become reality. However, with quite a few proposals in the city waiting for tenants, I'm not sure how quickly that can be achieved even if they say that the office space demand has increased vastly. Why do projects not go ahead then? This one has one advantage compared to the others though, its probably the fastest to construct , so this may help it abit.

Well this project has a huge advantage first being that its core is already 7 levels so move in time for prospective tenants is much shorter than any other proposed building AND this is a premium office and location so that helps depending on who is looking at space.

Great news but the budget is astronomical for a building of this size.

The location is pretty much the same as all the other proposals really. Esp 100 BSG and Heron plaza are on the same road!

It's weird to think this will cost twice as much as the Shard and still be shorter! If built it must be the most expensive skyscraper under 300m?

Now you mentioned it, I would prefer two buildings the height of the shard instead of the pinnacle then! But then again it's probably because the shard narrows as it goes up but the Pinnacle is way more bulk and imposing (which is a good thing in this case imo)

The project is probably in one of the most expensive sought after land in the world. Almost guaranteed success for investors.

Awesome!!!!! I am thrilled that they will keep the design. (It will save a year or two since they can use whatever work they already started!) This will be the single greatest new building in London, possibly beating our the Shard and the Cheesegrater for quality and beauty!

I'm so happy that this is going forward!

Does anybody know the Total Floor Space for the new design? It would be worth comparing it to the Shard.

The Pinnacle’s original architect Karen Cook has reportedly been lined up with PLP to design a rival proposal for the stalled project.

Shard architect William Matthews has also been linked to a possible redesign of the City of London tower.

The two bids are reportedly being prepared by developers Stuart Lipton and Hines respectively in the hope they can muscle in on the £1 billion scheme which has been beset by finance problems.

Lipton has hired Cook, according to a report in BD’s sister paper Building, and Hines has picked Matthews – who set up on his own last year after completing the Shard for Renzo Piano Building Workshop – and Canadian architect Adamson Associates, the firm that was the excutive architect on the Shard.

Cook designed the skyscraper, nick-named the helter skelter, when she worked for KPF.

She was one of five senior members of the London office that split from the US architect and set up PLP in 2009.

The Pinnacle remained with KPF but, nearly six years after work began on site, construction has only reached the seventh floor. It is now known to many as The Stump.

There were reports its complex geometry was too expensive and KPF was instructed to redesign parts of it in October 2012.

But in December the existing scheme reportedly emerged from a period of review with its design largely intact.

CBRE is expected to start marketing the Pinnacle to additional investors this month, which could throw the project open to a wider array of bidders.

From BD today

With so many organizations moving their HQ's and major branches to London, let's hope those bids come in soon. I'm hoping for some major news before March, but realistically before Spring.

hmmm yes it does look a bit thin. It still looks gorgeous mind you!

Is it me or does that look like the wrong position for the tower to be in? I assume the skyline is being looked at by the Walkie Talkien (or on Fenchurch street etc) - like the angle of the tower looks wrong?

Also, they left out the Leadenhall Building. A few problems with this rendering. But nevertheless it brings a well needed edge to the City.
