255m was a decent height, but I'm glad the 278m one is going ahead now. The flat top was just too much, the stepped top is so much better for the skyline. And with the width of this one, it needs all the height it can get.

Just keep the 278 meter height and make it 15 meters less wide. Could anyone photoshop that into a picture please? It would be really interesting to see how this tower would look if the wide side was thinner!

It's still 255m. That was mandated by aviation safety issues, which didn't just disappear.

The original 278m tower has planning and multiplex has a contract to build it,which has been confirmed by them.

The 255m scheme was withdrawn and does not have planning permission.

The whole crane aviation excuse for the shorter tower was a bit of a convenient excuse put by the developers which has suprise suprise, suddenly disappeared as they have confirmed they are still building the original consented scheme.

Charles you never give up do you. Why don't you just accept the facts? The 278m version is being built. End of story.

I'm surprised that the media did not report the alleged news. They all reported the height decrease and the Mitsubishi tower's height increase. Skyscraper center still reports the 255m height.

I'm very skeptical.

Even though plenty of UK forumers have mentioned it?
Even though I actually posted the official letter of withdrawal for the 255m project?

There was no need for the media to 'report' it because the 278m is the only one that has planning permission. So with the 255m design being withdrawn, nothing has changed from the original plan.

We now also have a regular UK forumer* on-site who has managed to confirm the information. (EDIT: The very same UK forumer who took the photos posted by PortoNuts below, actually!) Now will you please just believe us and accept what's happening? I mean, alternatively, you can just keep doubting the truth until the building is finished, then you'll see for yourself that the 278m stepped design is the one going up.

I'm not meaning to be rude, but it's getting rather frustrating and unnecessary. You can't just trust 'non-updated sources' like that. We have the information we need to show that the 278m one is being built, some of which I have already posted in this thread. Check the thread in the UK forum too if you are still unsure.

*from the same UK forumer:

2, I don't have the answers regards the basement but I'm sure there's some experts on here that can advise from my photos.

3, I plan to take photos every 2 weeks and give everyone an insight into the development of this project.

This image from the latest BDOnline article is the worst of the designs thus far. It's still essentially flat topped but just looks more idiotic. The 837m version was better than this mess.

^ ^ Personally, I preferred the 1279m version with an octagonal top, ice-cream rendering and wings!

This is the cleanest, and most elegant, iteration of this tower yet planned. Calling this "a mess" is a stupid choice of words. Criticizing this design for having a flat roof is even more idiotic. The previous design of this building looked like something a 13 year old child who plays too many video games would draw up.

The London skyline needs more classy, contextually simpler designs such as this, otherwise it will end up looking like some goofy second-rate provincial asian city, the kind that only looks nice to the simple minded.

Sorry, but this building is hideous and does not fit into the existing skyline.

^ I think it depends on what angle you view it from, honestly*. From some angles I think it looks superb - other angles not so much. It will certainly be impressive scale-wise if nothing else. I'm prepared to wait and see how it turns out.

*my personal opinion, of course!

That render is of the rear of the building and its most unflattering angle. It will be a nice addition to the skyline especially when 1 Undershaft is built next door.

I really hoped for the shorter tower.

900' of this horrible mess will ruin the City's skyline. While 1 Undershaft will also be a box, it's more elegant than this heinous disaster.

The shorter version was much better than this.

It's hard to tell which angle is the ugliest!

This is the correct render for that angle
