I haven't been to this thread for time and I see its under C.

Tallest tower when its built right? unless the shard gets built in super speed. But on the serious note I hope the economy wont effect this especially next year when the world economy will be lower than hell.

He probably knows, he lives in London probably this tower is going to suffer by the credit crisis like all huge projects.. Sad that they can't do anything about it..

Well I'm not laughing. Can we get a smiley face please, to indicate that the poster was trying to be at least a little jocular?

Oh the building, right. Gorgeous piece of work-- the outer shell leads the eye up just as should be the case with a tall building. Good on London and whoever builds this... this and the Shard will be on my list next time I'm in London.

You know, the other day, I was flying back from Munich and we landed at London City Airport. It was already dark and the last 15 minutes were absolutely STUNNING making a big U-turn and flying right over London and especially over the City and CW. I was wondering how much cooler it could get in 3 or 4 years but that also made me realize that... Either London City Airport does some serious replanning with its runways or London really cannot physically allow towers much taller than 300 meters. 400 meters perhaps. I mean... I felt like I could bungy jump and touch Swiss RE. Mission Impossible style!
Superb experience though!

Nice to see Bishopsgate has begun.
Would be more than a simple add for the skyline, because all the other towers will be articulate around Bishopsgate.

But please London, STOP 20FS !!! (maybe that its cancellation would be the only positive effect of the crisis...hope so)

the debat goes on. there is a 311 metre building on the south bank of the thames that will have construction commenced in january. it isn't in the flight path of london city airport. canary wharf, however, has heigh restrictions, around 235 metres, depending on precise location.

if you go to the uk section of ssc there are threads on this.

well, millenium tower would have been where 30 saint mary's axe (probably known to you as 'the gherkin') is. both norman foster designs. MT was never built because of concerns by the civil aviation authority. they were worried about planes from heathrow which is many miles away.

I think Skyline_FFM was talking about Millenium Tower in Frankfurt which still has a chance of being built

Dont know why your all celebrating this being UC, as far as anyone knows, NO contracts have been signed to begin 'above basement construction'...ie the actual tower.

Im not saying it wont be built, but all the work your seeing in the photos is 'basement works' only.

The likelyhood is that it will be built, but a delay is likely.

That's exactly the tower I thought of. MT Frankfurt. As the only one being able to still top London. But in the near future, London will overtake Frankfurt more and more as well as Paris will with all it's enormous projects. Frankfurt running behind with only one 350m tower and the rest between 170 and 250m...
