Same here, I had to toss a coin and I chose Bank of China. It looks alot better now with that new lighting system. Let's just say there is no building in HK that I don't like. I truly admire Hong Kong's present and future skyline with US7 and the Nina Tower being built.

When are Nina Tower and US7 to be built? I thought Nina tower was supposed to be finished by now?

2 IFC leans toward more of the type of skyscraper I like. Tall, elegant, glassy with steel, soars and setbacks gently and has nice curves at the top. BOC is nice, but I think it's very extreme - you either like it alot or you don't.

I voted for the Bank of China. Here is a photo I took covering both of them from the Star Ferry deck:

2 IFC is big, but I prefer the Bank of China's architectural style.

2IFC is just...unimaginative. It's freaking tall, but with little redeeming value. It's not striking or original, it is one Pelli's worst works. Having said that, it is pretty in a simple sense.

BoC is a masterpiece. Striking, unique. Nothing like it in the world.

Agreed about 2 IFC being simple, but I would say the top is both original and striking.

I love BOC because it has a very unique design not seen anywhere (unless Jakarta build that building that is similar to it which is also designed by I. M. Pei). 2IFC is not unique because you can see a shorter version next to it. Yea that doesn't make sene but o well.

Striking in the sense that it looks like a mouthfull of teeth?
No no no I do not like 2IFC; Hong Kong's skyline was such a sculpture of a masterpiece in itself until THAT thing came into the picture. No consideration to shape or design.
Ugly crown, ugly crown, ugly crown.... haha OK It isn't THAT bad but I am affraid of close up shots of it. Lots of sharp teeth... o_0

BoC has always been very dear to my heart and is just a stunning classic; one of the greats of the world for me.

Bank of China for me:

BOC has a lovely shiny-shiny glass curtian wall, very nicely offset by the white trim, the triangles keep it from being another monotonous box, and, while the base may be a bit blocky from some angles, the tower does have good height.

IFC2 also has a very nice shiny, shiny glass curtian wall, also very nicely offset by white spandrels; the curves and "setbacks" keep it from being monotonous and boxy, and it also has good height.

The problem with IFC2 (and why BOC got my vote) is its top - it puts on a good show at night when it's lit up (better than BOC's actually) but when it's not shining, the curve of the top of the tower up to those rows of knife-sharp, slim spikes makes it look like the toothy mouth of some critter that's popped out of it's hole in the ocean bottom, looking for lunch...just a bit too creepy for me...

Central Plaza is taller than BOC - I vote Central Plaza.

In the flesh 2IFC did not impress me. It is in a bad position and far too dominating on the skyline it should have been put back near were the centre is located - further away from the waterfront IMO. On the otherhand BOC and Central Plaza have always both impressed me. They are orginal, bold and striking - even a little extreme in their styles. 2ifc might be tall but it is really quite boring and sedate in comparison. I don't like it's understated style.

I have seen them both lit up and I'd have to say appart from the lasers on 2IFC it really looks crap at night even when lit. The new lighting on BOC is rather extreme but I love it - it suits Hong Kong. The Centre and Central Plaza when fully lit have better lighting in my opinion.

Funny you mention the tooth-like appearance - a friend with me in HK just recently gave that exact description for the building but this was why he actually thought of it as his favourite.
