Zentrum Zürich Nord - Impressions of the new neighbourhood

Today I went to a guided tour through the new-build neighbourhood in Oerlikon, a northern district of Zurich. The area has been overbuild in the early 20th century and became a center for heavy machine and weapon industry (BBC, later ABB, Bührle etc.) in the 50s. During the 1980s Switzerland turned to a services-based country and heavy industry was put out to "cheaper production countries"... So the city got several km2 of wastland free and started kind of a masterplan together with private investors. The result is Zentrum Zürich Nord, build during the last 10 years and construction is going on...

Here some impressions (pics I took today):

Okay some explanations:
- The first two are a construction for a 3-dimensional park - they have stairs and platforms to relax on all hights. In the end the whole structure will be overgrown!

- then some pics of PWC-complex and a condo.

- the last is one of the first new structures - just a tower in another park to get some overview
