Yes that was built in competition between South Indian railway company and South Mahratta railway company during british period. The first one had HQ in Tirchy and former one in Chennai.

trichy was supposed to be the capital of TN....
given its strategic location and great history...

MGR started shifting the HQ to Trichy in early 80's , but failed due to corrupted politicians...

is there any improvement in surrounding area as wen i visited i was lk college in the centre of a forest with lots of snakes

Are people allowed on top of the gopuram? I heard we can see Sri Lanka from the top of tat gopuram..

I don't think, they are allowing people to go top of the gopuram... But I too heard the same (can see Srilanka) At the time of Kumbabishegam, Some people (Poojari) are allowed to do some pooja.... |
