It was originally proposed to cost, US 1 billion 1998, at 560m, encompassing the Grollo Tower project from melbourne, although now at 800m+?? the cost is likely to around 2-3 billion US, due to the complications that arise from the greater elevation.

First of all the labour is cheap so that'll bring the price down. Secondly, someone should move this thread to the other main one

United Arab Emirates: 2 hours, 46 minutes ago
The construction cost of the Burj Dubai complex, which includes the world's tallest building and biggest shopping mall, is likely to hit $5.5bn, officials told Gulf News. Thirty construction packages worth half this amount have already been awarded. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2009

5.5bn for the ENTIRE COMPLEX sounds kinda cheap though doesn't it? Especially with all the residences, mall, etc...

our construction costs are much lower than equivelent US or European costs. At the moment we get quotes for work in US and can get cheaper local rates even without the conversion ie $7 000 000 vs 6 000 000 AED for the same thing, so if you convert its like nearly 4 times cheaper

Burj Dubai development cost expected to increase to Dh20b

By Saifur Rahman, Staff Reporter

Dubai :

Construction cost of the overall Burj Dubai development could shoot up to Dh20 billion, of which about Dh10 billion worth of contracts have been awarded so far, according to a senior official.

"We have awarded about 30 construction packages, valued at Dh10 billion, which include the most important components, Burj Dubai and Dubai Mall," Fred Durie, Emaar Properties' senior director for development projects, told Gulf News.

"These roughly account for about 50 per cent of the total construction works at the Burj Dubai development. We have another 40 packages to tender and award, and works are progressing as per schedule."

Emaar Properties is developing the area, billed as "the most prestigious one square kilometre on Earth", which will also contain the world's tallest man-made structure, Burj Dubai, the world's largest shopping centre, Dubai Mall, and associated facilities.

The company last year awarded a $900 million (Dh3.31 billion) contract for Burj Dubai to a Samsung-led consortium. Other components at the site include more than 60 residential towers, a business park, about eight hotels comprising more than 2,000 guest-rooms, parking facilities, villas, a lake, road infrastructure and a boulevard.

When completed, the value of the development, which will be populated by 30,000 families, is estimated to shoot up to Dh73 billion ($20 billion).

"We have recently awarded the elevators and cladding contract for Burj Dubai. Currently we are assessing the mechanical, electrical and plumbing contracts, for which about seven companies have bid. We will make an announcement on the winner next month," Durie said.

The first package under the Old Town development, A-2, has been awarded to Al Futtaim Carillion, valued at Dh400 million, Durie said.

"We are evaluating bids for the Site B package, for which bids have been closed," he said. "We hope to announce the results before the end of June."

Emaar is developing its own district cooling plant at the site, which will provide utility for the whole development. "We will build four district cooling plants for the Burj Dubai development," he said.

The first residents are scheduled to move into the Burj Residence towers next summer. However, the entire project will not be completed before 2009.
