I've recently flown to Surabaya, Indonesia via CGK. Flew QF and onto GA domestically as it makes the transit time much easier than using one of the LCC which operate from 1 of the other 3 Terminal's. This begs the question once the new terminal comes online would this mean ALL International carriers will be based there OR would it be exclusive GA/Skyteam carriers?

Per Original plan, its going to be exclusive for GA and Skyteam members.

Lufthansa will cancel Jakrata from 25th October.

Currently it operates FRA-KUL-CGK

I guess we can expect EK to increase Jakarta in the near future.

Plus EKs Bali service didn't help Lufthansa very much which is also a one stop from the four destinations in Germany.

CGK better get a wiggle on and strengthen their runways as we all know EK have a vast number of A380's on order. Pretty sure CGK is planned to become A380 equiped.

For A380 in CGK, runway is not the problem. It's everything else ...

I should've been specific as CGK have a number of areas requiring attention;

• Runway requires strengthening for longhaul services
• Taxiway widening
• A380 capable gates
• Terminal transfer methods updated similar to SIN, HKG, etc
• Immigration area needs updating as its hidden to the left upon the arrivals with visa processing charging extra for passengers paying with a credit card?

I know T3 will improve the travel experience but for those using OR transferring at the older terminals it's still going to be an absolute nightmare.

Guess I better enjoy the convenience of using QF/GA for now as they operate from 1 terminal.

Maybe when CGK builds another runway (which they need to cope with growth) it will be A380 capable.

Until the 3rd runway comes along its best they do with what they've got by strengthening the runways & update existing infrastructure. CGK have opportunities to become a transit hub, however longhaul flights having to operate via SIN/KUL is letting it down.

How is the runway not a problem? The Garuda 777 to Amsterdam has to make a stop in Singapore because of the bad state the runways are in.

Due to number of gears and their configurations, A380 actually requires lower PCN, similar to 744. So the runways in CGK with 120RDWT can handle A380 just fine, but not 777-300ER, which require higher PCN.

why don't they renovate the 2 runways one by one in approx/ 80 days like DXB have done last year? Is it an money issue? It's very awesome they are expanding the capacity, but without proper runways it's useless to upgrade the terminals... Is it something Indonesian? Bad planning etc? For example, the new airport (terminal) in Samarinda is almost finished, but they are still in the pre construction stage of the runway..
However, with the kertajati airport they've started with constructing the runway before constructing all the other facilities/infrastructure..

CGK have had the odd A380 diversion with a SQ A380 diverteting into CGK enroute. The downfall with CGK is lack of infrastructure to support Code F aircraft type.

The airport is simply too busy to afford a runway shutdown.
