A lot of those buildings are not going to be built. Off the top of my head, Asia Plaza, Chongqing Tower, Xujiahui Tower and Gateway III aren't going to happen.
But that CCTV Tower is a cool one, ain't it?

Amazing at how many tall tower projects that may be built in the next few years in just China.

Incredible, although some towers are ugly, but the most are just stunning.

America won't catch up. There is too much latent criticism in American society, and free speech lets it all out; Chinese officials silence complains regarding most development. This is a compliment on America's civil superiority, but it does not lend well to the skyscraper race. ![]() I love the Gateway III design. It looks far larger than it is, almost as a stone monolith the size of Hawaii, belonging in a Blade Runner cityscape. |

i don't think america even wants to catch up. people like their suburbs. love it or hate it, the vast majority of americans don't really like living in big cities. Nor do they like living or working in skyscrapers. So when people move, they move to houses, and when coroporations expand, they build low rise office buildings in the suburbs.
i guess the vast majority of us just like our suburbs. that said, I hope they keep building them in China! Most of those buildings are just stunning!
