I didn't realise they'd put the huge Hilton logo on it. Hmm...not good seeing it sell out like this.

But it's still pretty

what a fine design , it’s real shame to see it standing alone

I saw this fine tower in person last week. It is absolutely stunning and it's a perfect fit for a fantastic city. They don't make pretty like this just all of the time.

I wuldn't say this is a fantastic design, there is no thought gone into it, its square and apart from a slight overhand about 70-80 M up, there isn't anything special about it, here are 2 buildings designed by Ian Simpson, Beetham Manchester and Brunswick, Liverpool, Brunswick is taller in terms of usable height but Beethams stupid piece of glass makes it 5M taller than Brunswick

i know which one is nicer to me

I went past it today and everyone in there cars was just looking up. Also outside where aload of very expensive cars, Mercs, Bentleys, Range Rover Sports etc. Infact every road I've been down today has had one or two Range Rover Sports driving down it. They are so common in Manchester its stupid.

Went past this on the train the other day. It's a good thing for Manchester that this is already up and constructed, but I have to say that even as a fan of all things big and shiny, I was left disappointed by it.

Beetham's scale is impressive, but I was underwhelmed by its boxyness and awkward looking proportions. It looks like that long, gangly kid, uncoordinated kid that every year in school always had one of. Still, I'm jealous that Manchester's is up whilst we in Glasgow are still waiting for our proposals to commence construction!

I don´t know why but there is something that makes me dislike the idea of a highrise building with a top thicker than the base. To me those towers appear kind of unsturdy, like about to collaps very soon. I know this is bullshit, but the uncomfortable feeling about designs like this remains. Therefore I would have preferred a standard flat cladding for Beetham Tower. Maybe I think to much... Still a nice landmark for Manchester though...

I think it looks fine and will look much better when more skyscrapers are added to the Manchester skyline.

Well, they gotta start somewhere. It's the first of many planned, it'll be dwarfed by some others in the pipeline.

Another shot, from tonight:

Well that hasnt happened yet, so we've no need to worry and its not upto the people its upto the developers and govenment. Also that sounds like one of those really stupid questions a news reader would ask.
