I wouldn't worry about the name too much. As soon as people have to call it their office someday, they'll start calling it WTC again instead of FT. It's really only politicians who call it by the silly name.

As a forum, we should really boycott the name, Freedom Tower.

Let's call it WTC Part deux.?

For me this design would be very nice with a second tower, or bring back Foster's design in a hurry !

A tower of light…

…like the one in Shanghai…

It’s tall…

…like the one in Shanghai…

And it sits on top of an impregnable cube…

…like the one in Mecca…

That one even has twin towers…

Throngs come from near and far to pay homage…

Security’s guaranteed…

At the center of it all, the pilgrim’s goal…

Touching or kissing the Black Stone has a profound impact on the faithful as it is suppose to count in their favor on judgment day. The great Muslim traveler from Valencia, Ibn Jubayr (1145 - 1217) describes the emotion he felt on touching the stone; The stone, when one kisses it, has a softness and freshness which delights the mouth, so much so that he who places his lips upon it wishes never to remove them. It suffices, moreover, that the Prophet said that it is the Right Hand of God on Earth.--http://www.toursaudiarabia.com/kaaba/kaaba-3-high.html.

I don't see the resemblance to Stern's design for that building in Philadelphia ...

How about 1 Liberty Plaza and 2 Liberty Plaza (for the second tower).

On another note, the original WTC Towers had a lot of muslim architectural styled features to them. This new design, to a lesser extent, also does. I fail to really see a comparison of the pedestal of FT to the Kaabaa unless they make it out of black stone and put golden words all around it.

No I don't see it at all. Is this guy who wrote the article blind?

Trump's never built NYSE Tower is the only real comparison.

that'd be a good idea, but one of the buildings bordering the wtc site's already called 1 liberty plaza (since the plaza across the street south of the building's called liberty plaza). and calling the wtc towers the same would make ppl confused (even though 1 liberty plaza isn't as famous, except immediately after the 9/11 attacks when it was rumored that the building was in danger of collapse, which was false).

oh yeah, stern was not complaining about that depicted design (which is the final one btw). he was referring to an earlier design that used the same shape as the current FT design.

The sole point of the design for this tower seems to be to make sure it isnt ugly and that it deosnt look akward. Despite being the tallest thing around it adds almost nothing to the city.

If New York really wants to bult a symbol that implies her days as the world's #1 city are over then so be it.

I agree the design in itself is ok but it has no soul.

I think they need to concentrate on details now that they have a basic massing shape. The details of the facade and the spire will dictate whether the building gains a soul or not.

Well he shouldn't have used that rendering in his article (or did savethewtc add that pic?).

The resemblance stems from the triangles at the corners of the building that give the new Freedom tower an octagonal appearance from a bird's eye view.

They look more like the WFC towers' corners to me, which are a square within a zig-zag cornered square.

Nah, this is the picture circulating around with the article, I've never seen the earlier proposal by Stern, does anyone have it?

its a nice design, but i think new wtc would look much better without that spire......Jin Mao's spire looks ok, it perfectly matches with that set-back tower top........

Its kinda nice and simple and I think thats good...the previous design sucked and tried to do too many things.

Will this be as tall as the previous WTC to roof?
