I love the look of that city, and I like how they arn't trying to over-modernise evrything and stick SS in just for the hell of it. It has a nice historical, local look to it, its a shame it got so badly damaged by the war, who knows what else they could have built with the reconstruction money, but I have to say, they did a dam fine job!

Good stuff

What is the name of that street where the Duke of Sarajevo was gunned down in 1914? Which turned out to be the spark that caused World War 1, which in turn caused World War 2, communism and linked to the rise of Al-quada. Al-quada would not exist without the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan in 1979 and therefore the rise of bin-Laden and chums.

The root cause is down a little side street in Sarajevo.

Ah that’s an interesting take on history.

But the assassination of the Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was the spark not the cause of World War 1.

WW1 was an attempt by the Central Powers to build Imperial dominions in a world that was already colonized by the Allied Powers. Resources, Power, Interconnected-Alliances, and geo-political position of Europe were the reasons for war.

As for the street here are some pics:

that is one beutiful city, made all the more haunting by the tragedy it suffered. So many plots crammed into the graveyards for one.

Great looking town. One of the best pic threads I have ever seen. I'll have to add Sarajevo to my list of places overseas I'm going to move to.

And this is the same building being reconstructed (with a new façade) now:

I think Sarajevo is an amazing city, and would love to visit some day!!

I think the London moniker stems from the modern buildings mixed with Ottoman (Istanbul) and baroque (Vienna).
