algonquin:
i'm not sure if the mackenzie is suitable for heavy shipping but it is used by large barges to transport goods from the end of the railway at Hay River to communities along the river and further north in the arctic archipelago. However most goods to Yellowknife are delivered by truck, the highway into Yellowknife is finally all paved, the last 100km used to be pathetic. Within the next few years there will also be a bridge built across the Mackenzie at Fort Providence.

9/10. Yellowknife's skyline basically kicks Timmins' ass to the curb, so how can I deny it high numbers?

So, to get to Yellowknife is there an established highway or do they have to cross the frozen lakes in winter?

They have to cross frozen lakes. They were supposed to start building a bridge soon called the Deh Cho Bridge.

That's a really big skyline for a town of only 17 thousand, Some cities have liek a million and can't even get a skyline like this

You don't cross any frozen lakes to get here, just the Mackenzie River by ice bridge in the winter and by ferry in the summer.

So, do they have fixed fiber lines to the rest of the major cities in Canada for tellecommunications or do you have to use sattelite. Also, electricity, are you connected to the national grid or is Yellowknife on an independent one?

Please, this place is doing well here because it looks truely awsome, size is just a side issue. your a tool.

I dont see how it can be rated one of the top 10 places to live in Canada, your balls are probably literarly frozen half the year.

But it has a nice skyline, I must make a road trip up there soon. Always wanted to go down the Makenzie river(in the summer!)

I'm not positive about the fixed fiber lines, I think we do, but we are definitely not connected to the national electricity grid. Our power mostly comes from a dam on the Slave River about 100km or so north of the city, and there is also a diesel generator in the city limits.

: you must all remember that the people who live up there love that kind of weather. all that snow is like a day at the beach for them. if they where to traval to New York, or Bang-Dick they would be in culture shock just as much as u whould be if you went there. they would be hot and crowded. Its all personal preferance, so what is not impressive to you is also a personal veiw. so your vote is counted, but so are all other votes on this form and looks like to me many more aggree that its a very nice skyline snow and all. allso nothing in any of your cities can compare to the northern lights that they get each night practicly so there.
