I only stay in one of the normal room, not the high end suite, it feel better that the Hyatt in SFO, or the InterCon. in NYC, just the service kick US hotel's butt.
I agree with that. Alot of the hotels in Asia are really nice especially those in HK, Bangkok, Manila and Singapore.

There are some nice hotels in the US though most of them in NY or SF.

The max is 5. Even for the ones that claim they're 6 or 7, internationally, they're 5.

Like the Burj Al Arab, they claim they're 7 stars. What's the reason for that other than the architecture and gold?

It is something they made up to elevate themselves. Insecure people need it to validate themselves. It has little to do with anything of relevance.

I stayed in a hotel once where the room was dark and quiet at night. The bathroom had all civilised features including a nice hot shower....the bed was clean and so comfy...breakfast arrived on time with hot thick buttered toast and just the right amount of vegemite melting on top....What more could you want?

Why? Simply becouse the North American "60" is rated in MPH, while the other's "60" is in KPH. 60 MPH = 100 KPH.

From my experience the Luxury Hotels in Asia & Middle East are far more luxurious than their European or North American counterparts.
Not all of North America uses MPH... Canada uses KPH.

Jumeriah Beach Hotel is a 5 star Hotel and there are a few better hotels in Dubai that that one. I would say Grosvenour House West Marina by Le Meridien, Shangri-La Dubai and maybe Grand Hyatt, are better.

Yes, Burj Al Arab is just your regular Toronto Hotel, like the Honda Civic you drive is better then your neighbour's BMW (not that your Canadian psychic would allow a Civic and BMW drivers to be neighbours)

Officially, 5 stars is maximum and everything else is just marketing. I could have a 100-star hotel if I wanted.

Actually, I drive a camry and my neighbour owns a BMW. Is that close enough? If so, are you telling me that this "Canadian psychic" is going to come and force one of us to move? I would really hope not ! Stay away from me, Canadian psychic!!

The point was that 6 and 7 star hotel ratings are nothing but gimmicks. But thanks for proving your insecurity.

Yes, the the 6 and 7 star Hotels are just gimmicks in the same way as both the Acura TL and Rolls Royce Phantom are luxury cars.

Anyway it is Palazzo Versace (which means Versace's Building) not Pellazzo (which doesn't mean anything... it just sounds something like pellaccia: bad skin)

In Milan the Town House Galleria Hotel got 7 stars

So far I have:

Le Saint Geran in Mauritius, South Africa

Pellazo Versace in Sydney, Australia

I am also not sure if *technically* these are 6 star hotels all these ratings seem to be self awarded..

Mauritius is not in South Africa, but rather an island off the coast. South Africans might be building our own little African empire, but we have not taken over small island states as of yet. So Le Saint Geran will be in Mauritius, Mauritius.

sry to be postin bout 7 stars and not 6
The Palace of Lost City, Sun City, North West Province, South Africa is indeed luxurious and impressive. But alas, only 5 star. Built by Sol (that also built the Atlantis). Its a huge complex, opulent and grand... But not 7 star.
