ong ong's design cld have been in the CBD area, say Orchard or Marina area. if that bridge is linked to parco bugis junction, then why not having a bridge connecting to NLB building just across the road? to make the area more studious if it's to be.

Sim Lian wins S$85.3m contract to build entertainment complex
19 Mar 07 SINGAPORE : Sim Lian Group has won a contract worth S$85.3 million from Jack Investment. This is for the construction of a 10-storey entertainment complex at Victoria Street. The complex, to be completed by next year, is on the Urban Entertainment Centre site tendered out by the Urban Redevelopment Authority last year. Jack Investment had won the tender after submitting a bid of S$46 million for the site on a 60-year lease. Jack Investment's design concept for the complex comprises entertainment establishments on the higher floors to give good views of the surrounding city skyline, according to URA. The ground floor will have open and public arenas with event spaces, amphitheatres and public art spaces. |

Huh? ... only now they award the contract? I thought they have already started the construction. There are huge concrete blocks and equipment on-site since last year although not much progress.

I think 2 contracts are awarded: one for piling works and another for actual construction.
I saw the site recently and it is now totally cleared of the boulders...construction should be starting soon. |

I would say we'll get a few floors of predictable shops, and cafes, and cineplex perhaps, plus a foodcourt. Then some supermarket like Giant and another fitness gym like Planet Fitness will move in to become one of the anchor tenants. Indeed, the whole complex will be acronymed as "UEH" (Urban Entertainment Hub) or maybe "BEH" (Bugis Entertainment Hub), so you may overhear a few ah bengs "chio-ing" each other with "eh, dan jie ai kee BEH mai?" (Eh, want to go to BEH together later?") Let's just pray that the above scenario won't happen

Ya, you wish right? It's going to be an Arts and Entertainment district.

This was to be completed this year but from the looks of things, I think 2009 is more likely. Hope they have enough carparks to help alleviate the serious parking shortage in that area.

It looks about the same although the structure has risen above ground. Now that they are almost done with their new Kallang Leisure Park mall, maybe the owner can now concentrate on speeding up the construction of the Urban Entertainment Centre.

Does the new shopping mall look good? Or does it look the same plain ol' drab one from the 1980s?
