New York City : 7 WTC, 741 feet tall (part 2) Rising Above Ground Zero

Brief History

developer Silverstein with renderings...of 7 WTC...

Proposed Height: 741 ft
52 Stories
Completion scheduled in 2005
Architect: David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP

The new building, as proposed, will be "somewhat taller" than the 47 stories of the previous building,
according to state officials, but would have only about 1.7 million square feet of office space,
245,000 square feet less than the former building.

The replacement building, the base of which will be a parallelogram,
will occupy the city block bounded by Barclay Street on the north,
Vesey Street on the south,
Washington Street on the west and the newly restored Greenwich Street on the east.

The interior is probably all that is left.

They should have the top change colors during holidays! Like John Hancock.

i hate to say this, but that bldg is so generic. ground zero deserves better architecture than that.

the building really has a good look to it, although it's only a mono-colored black box. it looks awesome on sunny days, but it gets too gloomy on cloudy days (guess the facade's too sensitive to the weather conditions).

looks like the area immediately above the base's gonna get the same facade treatment as the rest of the tower. the base needs a redesign though, it just does not connect with the glass curtain wall.

i still like the original 7 better though...

Turned out better than I thought to tell you the truth. I saw the renderings, thought to myself, bleh, why a box? But it really looks nice and elegant. Don't forget this will be dwarfed within 5 years by not only the FT but the other buildings in the complex too.
