There is nothing impressive about a box, no matter how shiny it is. Maybe i will be impressed if it can float on water, but until then it is a plain boring generic box and nothing more.
yeah! Mies van der Rohe was overrated anyway

I love jealous people. Be proud NY! It means you're doing something right!

I think it's elegant and sophisticated. I like the cladding, and think it will compliment the construction around the rest of the site.

Sometimes, particularly in a very developed place like Manhattan, simplicity and obvious quality has greater impact than something ostentatious and gaudy.

Anyway, Lower Manhattan should be about functionality - isn't that what the city is famous for? I always thought New York was about substance over style.

I live close to NYC so why would i be jealous?

Sorry i value architecture and value the art and originality buildings portray. Sorry i am not like some who glea with pride everytime a plain box goes up with shiny windows.

I agree with media. It is rather plain. Looks really like the late 80's.

Awesome.
I was reffering to the WTC site as a whole when I made that statement.

Yes, a rather standard spec office tower, somewhat reminisant of the John Hancock Tower, in Boston. But although modest, compaired to what was destroyed, it to me represents our resolve to the tragedy of 9/11, and that we can rise above, and move forward.

To me this tower's meaning far transcends it's aesthetic value, and of course, given time this tower will become fully leased.

A few pics from my trip to NY this last weekend. These pics are from Monday afternoon, August 29th, a beautiful day for taking pictures...

7WTC with it's shorter neighbor...

A closer view of the base and the glass going up around the substation.

Some bonus shots - how it relates to the WFC buildings from across Ground Zero...

... and 2 shots of how it looks in the skyline from the Hoboken train station (pics from last Friday just before sunset).

That's one nice tower and looks better than the old seven world trade skyscraper. That was a quick replacement after the old one was destroyed and none others has gone up yet.

So, The Base of the new Freedom Tower design is just another replica of this WTC7?, looks quite similar in the rendering.

If you mean the Art Déco Building, then it's the Barclay-Vesey Building.
It was the fist skyscraper in NYC built in that style if I'm not mistaken...
