But Saigon is no match to other SEasian cities like bangkok, kuala lumpur, manila, jakarta andsingapore...

At the moment Saigon is at the same level of karachi and colombo, ahead of Dhaka and little bit below Mumbai and way below the big 5 of SEasia.

Certainly Saigon is way below the other major SEA cities but in term of aesthetic beauty I think Saigon is not far behind. I've been to Bangkok and I say the city is very poorly planned and very ugly at certain places. Saigon is very nice and clean now, just need more highrises.

Speaking economic wise, Vietnam is the second fastest growing economy in Asia after China. And when it joins the WTO it will grow at an even faster rate. I can't wait to visit it in a few year to see what it becomes and whether we can compare it to the other SEA country.

Saigon is far more large than Kuala Lumpur, and a greater city in every aspect, imo.

I think that's just a generalization. For starters, Singapore has a relatively small muslim population, so it can't be categorized as a muslim city. I'm unsure about KL, but I heard Jakarta's nightlife is quite good. However, I'm not too sure if it's safe. (That's purely security problem, nothing to do with being muslim or not)

Saigon's nightlife isn't that great either in regards to clubs. Most clubs shut down at 12am midnight!

I found some that were open way later than that though.

Saigon's nightlife is not good due to the government control. Singapore's nightlife is good. Bangkok's nightlife is fantastic.

By the way - Saigon is a beautiful city, maybe the most beautiful city in SE Asia in my opinion.

you're a few months too late.....it was so crazy before that's why they had to put on restriction
I saw with my own eye when the police tried to close down a bar....2 guys came out and smack the police...and a bunch of them laughing....and 1 other guy squeezed the police's nose.....until the two police called for more back up

and another time....in the morning....the police blew the whilstle at some guy....he stopped the moped, slapped the police and continue on going like nothing happens......I was laughing like hell

lol that's crazy!

I do like how the clubs in Vietnam treat you like VIP. shake your hand, greet you. The better they do their job, the better tip they get.

What is your favorite club in HCMC bang?

^ Man police in Saigon are so mean. Last time I was in Vietnam we caught a taxi down near Nguyen Hue boulevard. It was jam packed and the taxi could not go further so we had to get off. The police jeep came around and started banging heavily on the taxi with their palms. You just don't see that happen in Australia.

But the people can be crazy too. I saw a police being surrounded by a mob and attacked. LOL

In another case a guy violated the traffic rule and two cops got down and punched him in the face. He got a bloody nose.

Both sides are crazy I reckon.

My favourite club in Saigon would be Vivas

QBar, opposite to the Caravelle, is a good place to hang out and drink a couple of beers at imo. But as I wrote, Saigon needs more European style clubs and less restrictions and then it would be a great city in terms of nightlife, maybe one of the best in SE Asia.

There are some bars/clubs which open over midnight but you must accept the risk of being visited by the police....and if they discover someone in the bar uses drug (somehow very often)....and hop,a free visit of the police station jail,all-nite interrogation and call for a bail out tomorrow morning.

^ Hahaha something similar to this happened while I was in Vietnam. Me and a group of friends went to a friend's birthday and then afterwards we went to a dance club (Mecca) and had a few shots of VSOP. Afterwards we cruised around trying to find a karaoke bar that is still open (1am in the morning). Unfortunately one of the bike was detained by the police for having 3 adults on one single bike (hahahaha... 12 people with only 4 bikes). We didn't realise the last one was detained so the three stopped on the side and sitting around waiting. The police came over and detained everybody for loitering around in a big group at that time of night.

The cop asked for my ID and I told him I'm Australian. He then told one of my friends to go home and get my passport before I could be released. Hell it was funny.
