People are not receptive to this 'out-of-the-box' idea yet...

Till 2045, we will create an interesting ecological system on a landfill which people then would marvel and maybe do a case study on.

I love these passionate Singaporeans ( and maybe foreign talents ) that make such 'weird' ideas work!

RC: About a month ago

I heard from a driver uncle that there're many villages that were cleared off in recent years.

Now only Kampong Ubin and Kampong Melayu remain. Melayu had drastically decreased in size.

Other houses are scattered all around, does not belong to any village....

Bed & Breakfast or resort likely on Pulau Ubin as first public tender called on island

14 Dec 06

SINGAPORE: Visitors to Pulau Ubin may be able to enjoy 'Bed and Breakfast' or check into a resort on the island in the future.

That's because the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has called for a public tender for a state property on the island that will be used for recreational purposes.

It is the first time the SLA is calling for a public tender for a state property on the island.

The property is the former Civil Service College chalet.

To capitalise on the rustic charm of the island, the SLA is looking to dedicate it for recreational uses.

These include using it as a campsite or for group or corporate retreats.

The SLA says this is to cater to the traveller or tourist looking for a unique experience on an off-shore island.

The floor area of the property occupies about three tennis courts.

Another property on Pulau Ubin, which was unused previously, will soon be utilised by the Singapore Environment Council.

It will be for an Environmental Hub, which will feature a permanent exhibition centre.

The exhibition will educate island residents and visitors on the need to reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Hub will be ready in February next year.

Both plots of land will enjoy an initial tenure of three years.
