So the rumors are true. Everything in southern California is cheaper.....here's a sample of Northern Cali transit fares:

BART - trains - Bay Area
$1.25 to $7.45 (depending on distance - one way fares)

Valley Transit Authority (Silicon Valley aka San Jose area) buses and street cars
Day Pass $5.25
Express Day Pass $10.50

MUNI (San Francisco) buses and street cars
($1.50 effective 9/1/05) single ride with one transfer

Take a look at these prices. Whoever says public transit is cheap probably doesn't live in the Bay Area. Of all the transit systems in the Bay Area, MUNI, gives the most bang for the buck.

In Rhein-Ruhr-Area Germany, for 1.2 euro you ride 4-5 stations, the so called short distance ticket.

And in my home city Nanjing China, for 0.2 euro you ride as long as you like.
