Now, in Bilbao we use the CREDITRANS, a unique ticket for all the transports. It´s like a credit card with 5, 10 or 15 euros. When you use a transport it is discounted the price of that transport until your credit is 0€.

However, some years ago we used these ones:

(province´s buses, bilbao´s buses, metropolitan trains, public lifts, underground system and tram)

Has the CTA started fully using the smart card system yet? The last time I was in Chicago, they were still testing them.

Come on! More public transport systems must have interesting tickets than just these three!

That second picture I posted is the "Smart Card", or Chicago Card. They are ok, nothing special...

From left to right
NYC - MTA, Tokyo Suica, Tokyo Suica special edition, Seoul T-Money, Busan Hanaro Card

All are smart contact cards except for NYC which you have to swipe or insert.

In Holand we have the "Strippenkaart". The Dutch public transport is split in zones. Every city, every village etc. has his own zone number(s). So, for example. When I travel from the city where I use to live, Spijkenisse, to the centre of Rotterdam I travel trough five zone's. That means I have to stamp five zone's on my card.

The card is valid everywhere in Holland. In bus, tram, subway and transport over water. In the big cities, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven etc. it is even valid in local trains.

Here is an example. The pink one is a dicount card for people aged 65+ or children and student and animals. The blue is for everybody else.

In a few years the card is changed by an credit card like the London Oyster. It is based on that system. It is already been introduced by the Rotterdam public transport company and is called Chip Card. Here is an exampe.

So, where ever you are you can always use one card instead of multiple cards for multiple company's. Exept for the trains

In Denmark, we also have the zone cards. They're called "klippekorte" because you clip a little bit off each time you stamp it. They can be used on any type of transport within the region they were purchased in.

I kinda dig the "Chicago Cards". They're thin like a credit card, and you don't need to take them out of your wallet to use. I just kinda slap my ass against the machine and it clicks open to let me through to the station. Easier than having to search for a manual card each time, or take it out of your wallet.

I also love that it just automatically re-loads amounts via the internet (checking account) if my balance drops below $10. I put it in my wallet two years ago and haven't touched it or even really thought about it since that time.
