They are devices which can fit in to air conditioning and quite small devices available now.
But they aren't capable of identifying where the explosive is, just that it is somewhere in the building. It's absolutely no use if someone is intending blowing a bomb up on the platfom. The only ones that can detect them on a person require a small chamber and high pressure air jets. It can also be used to detect drugs on a person. They were featured on the BBC a few months back.

but if there was at some point (im aware this was not a case of this happening) a suicide bomb in London, they will blow themselves up nayway, if more and more saftey precautions are in place, this is the way it's gonna go, you just can't stop it...

Fragmentor's right. We could spend millions installing systems like this on the tube but a terrorist can just as easily climb onto a packed bus causing carnage and casualties or in a lift or numerous other places. It's a bit pointless.

Another option is just to be more vigilant. If you see something suspicious like an unattended bag then walk away and report it. Spending billions on security systems that will probably lead to health implications in the long term is just unjustified. How about the government starts tackling the real problems that curse people to commit such atrocities.
