Only the Chinese could open 600km of Motorway that nobody heard about.

Pretty well all the (Expressway) unserved provinces are on the great Tibetan Plateau so I expect more of these as China wants to finish its primary expressway network by 2020 including a link to all Provincial capitals....no matter how remote.

I would never bet against them managing it although annual losses across the Expressway network will be simply staggering.

G2 Jinghu Expressway

A 169 kilometer expansion project on G2 Beijing - Shanghai Expressway will commence on December 1. It will expand the expressway between Xintai and the Jiangsu border from four to eight lanes.

It will be expanded to 42 meters wide with a 120 km/h design speed. Construction will last for 3.5 years. This is the oldest part of G2 in Shandong province, which was built in the late 1990s.

Can anyone tell me is this a parallel highway to G318 Chengdu-Lhasa or G317 north of that.

And how long will the 2x2 expressway be?

That could be the Daduhe Bridge in Luding, Sichuan, at the start

It runs parallel to G318 from Ya'an to Kangding. It is partially visible in Google Earth. There will be a 13 kilometer long tunnel near Luding, called the Erlangshan Tunnel, and a bridge across the Dadu River (Daduhe Bridge, which is the one around 0:40 in the video).

The tunnel will shorten the driving distance to Luding, compared to G318 which follows the valley to the south. There is also a set of tunnels west of Luding but I could not find more info on that.

Yes. The bridge in the video is one of a number of Dadu (Daduhe) River bridges and is called the Daduhe River Xingkang Bridge to differentiate it.

There is a 4300 meter high mountain pass less than 20 kilometers west of Kangding. An expressway through there would require a very long base tunnel or a very steep approach. Kangding is located at 2700 meters elevation, Luding at 1300 meters.

The Chinese plan to build a parallel HSR line all the way from Chengdu/Ya'an to the east of that new bridge and then all the way to Lhasa via Kangding, c.2000 km of it costing $16bn and starting next year it seems. The expressway section from Ya'an to Kangding is ingeniously known as the Yakang Expressway.

The Erlangshan tunnel breakthrough was in September 2017 after around 5 years of work. Ya'an to Kangding is 140km or so, the bridge is around 50km west of Ya'an and I cannot see much construction from there to Kangding on any imagery.

Over that 140km the road will either rise 2000m towards the Tibetan plateau from Ya'an (which is itself at 600m ASL) or else it will rise 1400m from 600m to 2000m depending on the crap google translate news sites. Compared to a HSR an Expressway is rather easy.

Here are a few pics from the Government Xinhua News Agency

G2517 Shaxia Expressway, Fujian

A 32 kilometer section of G2517 Shaxia Expressway (Shaxian - Xiamen Expressway) opened to traffic yesterday near Dehua. A 71 kilometer section was completed but the northern half can't open until the next section is completed, sometime next month.

The Yiqi Expressway has the same name in simplified pinyin as the S20 Yilan - Qitaihe Expressway, also in Heilongjiang province. However they have different characters in Chinese.

http://qiqihar.dbw.cn/system/2017/11/23/057847585.shtml
S20 is known the other way round, as Qitaihe-Yilan expressway, as otherwise they would have almost exactly the same name in Chinese, only changing the tone on 'qi' (And the expressways are named from East to West unless the provincial capital is located at the Western end). S12 was known as Yichun-Jagdaqi/Jiagedaqi before its initial western half was taken over by G1213, and also as Qianjin-Nenjiang expressway.

Anyway, this is nothing compared with G59, or Hohhot/Huhehaote-Beihai expressway, through Hubei province. Or the Shanxi provinces, one of them styles itself as Shaanxi as otherwise it would be homograph (without tone markers) with its neighbor.

Jiangsu & Anhui

Two segments of expressway opened to traffic in Jiangsu province this month.

On 18 November, a 40 kilometer section of S49 Xinyi - Yangzhou (Xinyang) Expressway opened to traffic from the G25 interchange to Tiancheng. It is mostly in Anhui province, S49 cuts through Anhui between Xuyi and Yangzhou. The Tiancheng - Yangzhou segment will open in December.

Also, in November opened the currently easternmost leg of the G1516 Yancheng - Luoyang (Yanluo) Expressway, 30 kilometers between S49 near Sihong and Sixian in Anhui. It was mostly completed in 2010, but the easternmost section couldn't open until the Jiangsu section was completed. No exact date is given.

G2001 Jinan Ring Expressway

They started with a photovoltaic project on the G2001 Jinan Ring Expressway. The southern portion of the ring road of Jinan gets solar panels as a driving surface.

So I was reading deciphering about Sichuan provincial expressways, and found their ring expressways are numbered SxA, where A is another letter. Most of them are (or will be) numbered S1x (with x being the letter), but interestingly, there will be no S1A around Chengdu (as G4201 takes its place) despite there is a S2A (the purpoted "G4202") and a S3A (the purpoted "G4203", also with a gap between Deyang and Dujiangyan as this section is numbered G0511 instead).

It was part of the Changchun - Shuangliao project (125 km) which was completed in 2015, except for the easternmost section near Changchun which was delayed.

I believe this is the final section of G25 to open to traffic all the way from Changchun in Northern China to Shenzhen in Southern China, completing the 3585 kilometer expressway.

However I believe there are still two missing links: One in Shandong near Binzhou (though it may open soon, given it's already shown on Baidu Maps) and the other in Zhejiang between Tonglu and Jinhua.

Guangxi

The new G6511 Wuzhou - Liuzhou (Wuliu) Expressway in Guangxi. It is a 219 kilometer expresway from the Guangdong border to G72 at Liuzhou, it is an extension of Guangdong S8. It will open mid-December.
