We also had yellow side markings before adjusting to EU standards. I liked it more, it was more colorful.

I can't really think of pros and cons of yellow or white lines.

Besides the contrast is better with yellow and black asphalt, though on concrete, yellow might give a better contrast.

I once read this report that says black-on-yellow roadsigns gives the best contrast, Luxembourg and Germany are the only countries to have this kind of signage as far as i know.

These highways are going to be a bitch to maintain. They look like they're out in the middle of nowhere.

not a problem, they are tolled. a 30KM expressway costs 4 us dollors.

to identify if a road is expressway or not, mainly by if the road totally closed by fense. no matter the road how wide or smooth, if not closed , can't be called "express way " in china.

I doubt. They are tolled and there's a lot of people to pay taxes. And I doubt they are in the middle of nowhere.

That's very expensive, about 50% more than most European tolled motorways.

Tolls in Western Europe. let me correct you. Uk Motorways are toll free except for M6 Tollway around Birmingham. German ones are toll free. France, Spain Italy are all toll highways. Benelux all toll free. Switzerland and Austria have " vignette " system. ie you need to buy and display a sticker to use Autobahnen. Other countries, dont have the info.

The Indiana Toll Road charges 4 dollars for a 213km stretch. Talking about cheap tolls... In France, you easily can pay about € 15 - 20, that is almost 30 dollars...

in general, expressway tolls in developing countries are more expensive. I guess it's because the roads are newly built and investors need to get their money back as quickly as possible.
