In dubai, too many things are overdone and axaggerated. Although the projects is grand indeed, but is unnecessary. so much land dedicated for Golf?. Could have been put to much better use.

People are asking the importance of Golf city well the answer to that question is DUBAI OPEN??

A low rise 6 or 7 star hotel is being proposed in Southampton UK.

I used to be a member of one of the Dubai Golf Courses as my club in the UK had an alliance with them. Sadly I never got out to Dubai to take advantage of it. At some point I will do a big golf holiday to Dubai. This place looks very nice!

Water costs would be monumental, but that will be made up since the labour costs and availability is substantially more compared to the Western Cities. I heard Dubai Golf City has an Oasis course...you cant build one without water

Its more of a holiday destination though the main attraction is golf. I personally dont like the game, but golf courses seem to attract thousands of visitors provided the course is designed well with good facilities. And I heard, IMG, the largest sports management group in the world and with plenty of experience is building 2-3 courses in Dubai Golf City.

In a region where the vast mjority of the land is still un utilized desert, building an artifical island or a 55 million sq feet for a golf development is a colossal waste of money if you dont consider the business sense. For its future, Golf City will make a huge difference.

Since they have signed up with IMG (firsttime in the middle east) which has direct connections with the PGA tour, it wont be surprising if you see big tournaments happening in Golf City. IMGs got all the big guys - Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Annika Sorenstam.... and the likes.

there is another 7 star in abu dhabi, the emirates palace.
and one approved for palm jumeirah, dubai, the atlantis , a jointventure between the owner of the bahamas atlantis and dubai ports authority i think.
