Cape Town does good things with bad buildings

1.) 34 St. George's Mall This is an unattractive office tower that has been converted into beautiful apartments. A two-storey addition of penthouses done by a worldfamous loft developer has changed the building entirely, and the retail at the bottom will remain, with new luxury tenants. It still isn't beautiful, but it is so much better.

2.) Fountain Suites This is a very ugly office building that was in desperate need of a refresh. Although the exterior is beyond anything that can be done to beautify it, the inside has been turned into beautiful suites and hotel rooms, and there has been a two-storey addition of penthouses on the top. Now, this previous office building has become luxury living condos...

For more developments like these (if you are really interested.. if you are not I can see why) go to THIS THREAD.

I hope you learned something by this thread- don't give up on seemingly useless or ugly buildings.

Wow. That really sets a good precedent for other cities to follow.

not right now - just imagine ugly, drab, 1970's offices with paperwork everywhere and ugly outdated furniture. haha
