Wooow, didnt have a clue Papuk was that beautiful
![]() I have a question regarding this natural beauty. I know Papuk comes right above Pozega, but does it also extend down south to Pozega knowing that this town is located in a valley sorrounded by high hills; are these hills part of Papuk, too ?

^ Papuk was mentioned above at least 10 times, and you are still not sure? ...well, maybe you should then either read more or might just as well keep guessing like now

the Slavonian Mountains
The Pozega Mountains
The Pozega Mountains are made up of Psunj, Papuk, Pozeska gora, Krndija and Dilj gora. By reason of their form they can be categorised as a chain, and are composed of long, well linked spurs. They are not distinguished for their height (there is nothing over 1,000 m) but the contrast with the Slavonian plain does confer on them the characteristics of mountains. Their main features are the gentleness of the nature, the many valleys with mountain streams and the grass clearings on the ridged mountain spurs, which offer delightful views. Nature: The Pozega Mountains are distinguished by a rich covering of vegetation, which covers practically the whole of its surface. On the lower slopes there are crops and picturesque vineyards, while higher regions are forested, mainly broad leaf trees, with a sprinkling of conifers. On the slopes there are still a series of ruinous buildings, once military towers and lookout points. Because of their commanding position on the peaks they are very attractive aims for hikes. |

A view of Pozega from the SW to the NE (od JZ prema SI). In the background you can see the Papuk mountain. When going to the west comes Psunj and to the east Krndija.
![]() Pozega lies on the "Pozeska gora" hill. From there when going to the west you come to Psunj and to the east to Dilj gora. On clear days this "mountain" range can be seen even from the Osijek's southern connecting road - that's flat Slavonia for you!

Tko bi reko da je ovo Slavonija!
![]() I'm back from the sea Hopefully next week I will go to Jankovac! I love it up there! The first time I went there was in winter 1989. I stayed there for a week with my family. Since then I have been going there at least once a year. If any of you guys get's a chance to go to Slavonia you have to visit Jankovac! Of all the mountain places in Croatia Jankovac is my favourite and then come The Plitvice Lakes! They say they will renovate the ski-lift so it will be fun to go there even in winter! I can't wait!

The Retailer's Nightmare...
14.8.2005
Lidlovo zemljište i dalje netaknuto i u korovu? Map of Slavonian "mountains"

Thanks Esseker, I just learnt something new about Slavonia. Even that those mountains aren't over 1000 metres, there are a number of them that come pretty close. Looks like this region has some spectacular scenery and also a bit of history.
