yeah, most ppl would associate Slavonia with lowlands only, and that is very far from what Slavonia really is like.

A few years back i was travelling with a friend of mine from Zagreb to Nova Gradiska. My friend was from NG and used to run a music studio there. Anyways, I remember when either was Novska coming up or we already passed it; I saw snowy peaks, and just figured those were very high hills or some kind of mountains. So it took me a minute or so to gather some strenght to ask my friend one revolutionary question: umm, isn't Slavonia supposed to be totaly flat? lol

Slavonia is flat, yup, but only its eastern half; not completely, though

I thought so too when I did a bit of research a few years ago. Slavonia is mixed. You get pockets of flat terrain and then you also get pockets of what I thought were high hills, but in actually fact you can call them mountains. Croatia is lucky to high such diversity considering its size.

thx a lot esseker

what is the status on those ski lifts being fixed?

Od Požege i Županje sve do Vukovara...

Yeap Slavonija is actualy a very hilly region. The only real lowlands are along Drava and Sava while even along Danube you have hills. When you go from Osijek to the north to Baranja the first 20km or so are low low lowlands and then as you go further north it gets hilly like wawes of fields and then in the middle there's even a real hill with vineyards

One of the most beautiful landscapes is on the road from Osijek to Djakovo where you drive through a mixture of fields and vineyards all on small hills

Another very nice simmilar landcape is on the road from Vukovar to Ilok where you have vineyards and down the hill flows the all-mighty Danube

The intersting thing about driving on these roads is that you dont have a feeling you are driving through the hills. For instance when I was driving to Ilok, suddenly there was a big curve to the left (and down) on the road and after that the town of Sarengrad opened in the small valley beside Danube! And I had no idea I was driving on a hill!

Corridor VC

It sounds like a WC in a corridor

As you all know the highway from Budapest to Sarajevo and Ploce will pass Osijek. So that's why for the 2nd time there will be a simposium about it on my college (economy) at the University of JJ Strossmayer in Osijek. It will take place on 11th and 12th of November 2005. For more info try

http://www.efos.hr/corridor5c/hrv/info.htm

I will defenetly try to be there. I am especially interested in the railway and air V5 corridors.

The Railways announced that in the proces of reconstruction of the existing railway some viaducts will be built in order to avoid road/railway crossings. On one of such crossings in Osijek they even plann to build a tunnel under the road! I can't wayt to hear more about that important project!

Well Oettinger, at this moment none of the ski areas drawn on the map are in function but the ones in Daruvar and Lipik work.
When I go to Jankovac I will ask for more infos. But even if the Jankovac ski slope doesn't start to work this winter people will still improvise although, it can be very dangerous, belive you me!!!

Cool. Give us an update if you see or hear anything. In Bosnia, they have finally defined the exact route of corridor VC down towards the port of Ploce.

a map of the C-5 road route in BiH

It's not much but at least it gives you a priview of the planned route. They say it will have 75 km of tunnels which is 26% of the road and the road will be 450 km long through Bosnia.
The route goes through: Svilaj (HR), Odžak(BiH), Modriča, Podnovlje, Johovac, Rudanke, Doboj, Ozimica, Nemile, Zenica, Lašve, Kakanj, Sarajevo, Vlakova, Lepenice, Tarčina, Konjic, Čelebića, Jablanice, Salakovca, Potoci, Mostar, Bune, Počitelj i Zvirovići where it get's back to Croatia. Actualy it seems to be following the route of the old road.

5-C near Osijek

Here's a map of the route of the C-5 highway near Osijek. It will be passing Osijek in Josipovac where today the southern connecting road ends and continue towards Đakovo.
In blue color is the western connceting road which is being build and will enable traffic to go around the town's center (the part south from Drava is already finished).

NOVOGRADIŠKI MAJSTORI POPRAVILI ELEKTRIČNI MEHANIZAM NA ZVONIMA ŽUPNE CRKVE SVETIH PETRA I PAVLA
U crkvenom tornju katedrale podešeni i sat i zvona

Images and story behind the rebuilding of "Our Lady of Fatima" church in Borovo Naselje which was blasted to pieces by Serbians in 1991. The new church is a different design to the old one .....

The new church in Borovo Naselje looks much better than the one before destruction. We could say "sreća u nesreći" because the one before the war didn't look like a real church. But during communism many churches were allowed to be built only if their buildings didn't have a real clock tower. And the purpose of the tower is for the people to see it from far away and come to the mass.
