Great weather yesterday, I like that second to last picture showing the staircases in place and glimpses of the steelwork for the main facade pattern.

Like the interior pictures of Leeds Arena considering it is getting to the stage when you can clearly see where the seating and stage will be located. Any indication as to how long it will be before cladding starts to go up?

judging by the second to last photo in the above we should keep an eye on the concrete cladding before we can expect to see the cosmetic outer cladding. i presume they'll start that job either with the roof or stage area as they have done with the concrete

Taken from the position which will be the "worst" view in the house. Not bad...

Its going to be interesting seeing gigs here - the stage looks a lot closer from the back than at typical arenas. Can't wait to try it out.

Ryan Geldard is certainly making his mark on his home city. As an assistant site manager for BAM Construct UK, Ryan has already worked on some major Leeds projects, but his current role is changing the city sky line and has got everyone in the city talking.

The Leeds Arena, set to open in 2013, will be a 13,000-seat, purpose-built concert venue, five minutes walk from the city centre. For Mr Geldard, projects like this are the very reason that he sought out a career in construction.

Mr Geldard, 23, is flourishing in his chosen career despite tough times for the construction trade in the UK. He sees his success as a vindication of his decision to leave school at 16 to attend building college. Despite good grades, he knew he didn't want to take the conventional route to university. He comes from a family of Leeds builders and, at the time, construction was booming.

"I think some of my teachers were disappointed but I knew what I wanted to do," he says.

His job is to be the eyes and ears on the site and to make sure that all the different contractors and specialists are all working to the same plan. He earns Ģ22,750 (US$35,000) on top of which BAM are now paying for him to attend Leeds Metropolitan University, where he's reading for an MSC in building site management.

Free from the shackles of student debt - a contentious issue in the UK after the introduction of higher fees last year - Mr Geldard is looking forward to the future.

The phrase 'got everyone in the city talking' is interesting because I'm always amazed at how many people have no idea what is going on.

Someone said to me just the other day 'What's that they're building? Offices?'. You think 'Before I ponder how you've managed to miss that Leeds is getting an arena, have you even looked at the shape of it to realise it's not offices?!'.

I'm also shocked at how many people have no idea that Trinity is being built. '...Trinity Leeds' 'where's that' 'the new shopping centre in town... you know, right in the middle where that huge building site is' 'not sure? I'll have a look next time I'm in'.

We really are not the norm. Most people just don't notice of care about new developments until they are built and are being marketed. Even then they may not be noticed. My wife made an incredible comment a few weeks ago about Opel Tower. She said, "Look at that new building, never seen that before" even though she passes it on numerous occassions travelling on Clay Pit Lane and onto the IRR

I know a few people who work in the VQ (some of whom walk past it everyday to get to work) that know nothing about Trinity

I agree No.1, I have to tell people what is being built there too, but yet everyone I know, including my mother and grandmother, know about Trinity already - odd

I can understand the lack of knowledge regarding the Arena which I think is due to its out of the way location on the outskirts of the City Centre.

That is exactly why this arena will be a roaring success, and exactly why some manc trolls are a little bit scared of Leeds new arena. IMHO

This won't affect Manchester. Sheffield and Liverpool perhaps, and maybe the smaller arenas & concert halls but I doubt Manchester.
