I'm not sure that you guys are being entirely fair. Jan Fletcher seems to have worked hard all her life and has been involved in many a charity event throughout the city both these aspects have lead her to receiving a CBE.

The wording of some of that entry looks very suspicious.

"...extraordinarily diverse sectors..."

Could she have built the Arena- No
Has she built anything on the back of her grand "City One" plans - No
Would we have an Arena being built now if we had left it to her - No

......It was in the interests of Leeds that the council devcided to move forward as no finances were ever put in place by Mrs Fletcher to build the Arena

.....Lets move on, and look forward to the launch

Her work for charity events may comendable, but she is now suing Leeds City Council for financial gain, which if succesful will come directly out of the very depleted and worsening council funds which the council are having to make cut backs and make people redundant for. I wouldn't mind so much if she was suing a financially stable business, but suing the council would take cash away from already thinly stretched funds, resulting in perhaps more much needed centres to close and jobs to be lost, which are currently the source of quite a bit of misery particularly from the poorer end of our society (in Leeds as with all other towns and cities up and down the country). Also, my comments were not against her as a person, just a reflection on the success of her one self proclaimed major project.

The financial gain you/Rob mentions is the cost and work which as occurred getting the plans submitted to Leeds City Council. I have to say if I was in her position I would do the same. Anyhow the courts will decide if Leeds City Council have a case to answer.

That is for the court to decide. Leeds City Council need to follow the rules set down.

wasn't quite sure where to post these but seeing as Woodhouse Lane is going to be the main arena car park I thought this would be a good place to start...

Is there going to be a bridge from the car park over the IRR slip roads?

Don't think so. Just out of view on the above they're building stairs and a ramp from the lift shaft down to the path/ subway that goes under the slip roads

might just be the next stage of the extenal skin build up. Looks like a profile sheet, it could be the final finish and this is the back of the Arena.

Do we know what the proposed cladding system is on the Arena?

@tomd89
The cladding on the back will be green just like the front.

Leeds Arena will be state-of-the-art
THEBUSINESSDESK.COM has been given an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Leeds Arena as construction work on the 13,500 capacity venue accelerates.

Despite completion of the project still being almost 12 months away, the scale of the multi-storey entertainment venue can be appreciated.

For weeks, motorists travelling along Leeds's busy ring road have been able to witness the exterior of the arena rising upwards and taking shape.

With the steel frame of the development in place, the arena's unique fan shape seating design, which will give every spectator unrivalled views of performances, towers into the sky.

Stood in the top section of the multi-tiered seating area, visitors can get a sense of the venue's vast performance and staging space.

Construction workers from BAM, the company building the scheme, scurry around the site as they work to progress the development.

Retractable seating on the ground is to be made available, allowing events ranging from concerts to basketball and boxing matches to take place.

Each act will bring its own staging, with some expected to carry more than 20 lorries worth of kit for their performances.

VIPs will be able to dine in a plush restaurant and those lucky enough to be seated in boxes will enjoy luxury comfort and stunning views of events.

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.tv, Martin Farrington, director of city development at Leeds City Council, said: "What a fantastic venue this will be. It will have a unique selling point in the whole of the country for arenas in terms of the scale of the auditorium but also the intimacy you get from that super theatre environment.

"Leeds has got a great story to tell and we're really building towards a really exciting time for the city."
