ANKARA: New International Airport

Capacity: 10.000.000 pass/year

New airport will take the place of current one. Probably will continue the name "Esenboğa Int. Airport" as it is currently. It will be constructed on the current "Terminal C" lot of Esenboğa, but it will be a totally new construction not a renewal.

By talking about Ankara, why they felt the necessity to change the name from Angora to Ankara ??... the first one is prettier, and also more known (specially because the cat with the same name)

Ankuwash: Hittite name

Ancyra: Celtic name

Angora: Name used in the Ottoman period

Ankara: More "Turkicized" version used in the republican period

In time most of the Anatolian cities' names varied in different forms, probably due to language.

Ankara had several different names in the history. Some of these names are used in same time interval, some in different. Ancrya, Engürü, Angora are the most well known historic names of Ankara.

Looks great!! Dunno about the rest of the airport (i.e. runways etc) but the terminal looks like it could handle more than 10 million per annum.

Turkish Airlines might not need an A380 but what about other airlines that would like to fly some?
