it may be ugly to you, but it's all about location and the building itself. he hasn't done a 2,000 foot tower before! no one has. glassy is the wave of the future my man. you can't be complacent. you must strive to move forward and glassy towers are the future. the twist is perfect for chicago. their one of a kind box towers broke through 40 years ago, now they're going with the twist. what's the complete opposite of a box? a twist, and now chicago will have it. chicago has tougher regulations than almost any city when it comes to final designs of buildings. this is what the artist and developer see. as Donald Trump can attest, the city council of chicago will change the design. by how much is anyone's guess.

It's too narrow for a structure whose tallest floor is just above Sears. Give it some GIRTH!!!

The design of this tower + height combination makes it into a real great icon!
This will be superior to anything currently on development in HK, Shanghai or the gulf.
Amazing new addition to chicago!!

I think adding more space would jeopardize the entire project. Not only would it cost more money to make the building, but it would also mean Carley would need to sell even more units. Plus right now Carley can say that one tall but slender building blocks less views and light than two shorter, but chunky buildings within the current zoning.

I think that it has topped the Sears Tower and there is no reason for that fugly spire. Other than that I love it. And I'm sure the spire will grow on me. lol

same thing with the one in ny ... design is at least a little more moderate and all but the location of his ny tower as well sucks.. i like the idea of sticking it to ya by putting all this nonsense right in your face.. but i think it should be tucked away deep in the center of town poking out a little... as for chicago scrap the candle idea its comedy.

I dunno about it being superior to any of the current developments...it is a great design but there are some pretty amazing developments out in all three areas you mentioned...i still think burj is better, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Jeese, you read some of the comments here about what "does" and "does not" supposedly "fit" the Chicago skyline.

I wonder what folks thought of the Marina City Towers (i.e. the Corn Cobs) when they were proposed? I mean, space age corn cobs don't necessarily "fit" others (mis)conception that Chicago is all about boxes (which is a misconception on so many levels)... but those Space Age Corn Cobs are iconic, and 100% identifiable with Chicago.

Chicago sports such a wonderful array of buildings that punctuate the style and mood of EVERY phase of 'scraper development (Neo-Gothic, Spanish Revival, Brutalism, post-modern, and yes, the Chicago School, to name a few) that I think it is high time to add one more piece of quality work to the collection. And hey, if it is 2K high, so much the better...

Chicago has always been a place for the new cutting-edge skyscraper architecture, and this one is just fits perfectly and continues that legacy so fine.

Hmmm.....

In spite of the twists it actually is slim and soaring, at least it doesn't have a flat top, and of course, I'm always a sucker for a nice shiny, shiny glass curtain wall...

But the base IS too much like a pedestal...

First, its materials don't blend with the tower at all. It might help if the base had some of that lighter glass in it, or if there were some "racing stripe" mullions that matched the base running up the tower.

Second, the sudden size gap between base and tower needs to be bridged with a series of gradual set backs beyond the base, that are better integrated with the tower as it rises (like the Empire State). Unfortunately, I see no way whatever to add any setbacks to that spiralling tower...

Finally, there's the gap between straight lines and curves...

the base is very very ugly urbanity killer... the tower itself is top notch, although, im getting sick with his turning twisting styles, 1 (turning torso) was way enough

This isn't a 2,000 foot tower. It's a 1,400 foot tower with the BIGGEST SPIRE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
