Phobos — those photos are great, thanks so much.

It's great that we're gradually getting different views of this gorgeous building.

The spire in the first photo looks a lot different than the spire we're used to seeing. I think it looks much better, I hope that's what it ends up looking like in the end!

I like it, but like I told someone else when I first saw this, it looks like a big drill bit sticking out of the ground.

But, it is unique, thats for sure.

Here are some short films for you to enjoy:

CALATRAVA - WELCOME TO CHICAGO (2:38)

A CONVERSATION WITH SANTIAGO CALATRAVA (12:02)

CALATRAVA - BUILDING RENDERINGS (4:25)

Thanks to BVictor and the friendly people at Fordham Co. for providing us with a handy DVD from which to lift these films from. . .

After watching those videos I think it would be an honour to have Calatrava design any building for our city, he obviously has a great love for it.

Hell, I think this design is so great I wouldn't care if it got reduced in size to something less than 1500ft w/spire, as long as it's built!

Well, we'll see....

I have alot of doubts about the viability of a 500-million dollar building with a couple of hundred units in a market as saturated as downtown Chicago. Just look next door at Lakeshore East, and then look down the way at the South Loop.

...not to mention Trump.

In this market, the financials of the Fordham Spire don't add up all that well.

I do hope it gets built. We Chicagoans would do well to have a sculptural tower like this at the lakefront.

I mean, River North was an opportunity wasted; it's now one big blob of tan and beige concrete. Bleh. And the Fordham Company is behind one of the worst of them: The Pinnacle. It's a strange mix of cheap materials and overwrought design.

This new tower certainly would make up for the Pinnacle.

Oh, come on. We're selling multi-million dollar condos down here in Otlando.

You've got an iconic building, designed by a rock star of an architect, in a plum location, in a world-class city. The Mayor's on board. And it's getting inquiries from all over the world from uber-rich people who can't wait to throw down absurd amounts of cash.

I think it'll blend in beautifully with the Chicago skyline. Remember all these renderings were generated to make it stick out like a sore thumb to emphasize its presence. It won't be THAT radiantly glowing...

For one thing, the only building you mentioned that this building is competing with is Trump's building. The buildings in Lakeshore East and the South Loop are a completely different market, catering to a completely different customer base, because they're far less expensive.

I love it when people with no idea what they're talking about like to analyze the financial viability of projects...

My point is that Chicago has a superior skyline to a lot of places outside of the Americas as well.... ya know, those other 5 continents?
